"Opticianry Summit" Any news or first-hand accounts?

The "Opticianry Summit: Creating a Plan for the Future" happend a couple of weeks ago now, and I didn't see any posts regarding first hand accounts. All I found was this vague reference:

    http://www.visionmonday.com/ViewCont...3/Default.aspx

Does anyone who really ATTENDED have anything to share of how it went down?

I don't know anyone personally on the core committee except Ed, but here is the list: Ed DeGennaro, MEd, ABOM, LDO; Diana Finsecy, ABOC, FNAO; Tom Hicks, ABOC, LDO, HFOAA; Madeleine Kruhsberg, ABOM, FNAO; and Doug Pelkey, ABO-AC, NCLEC, LDO.

The initiatives are being refined by the Stewardship Team and others from the Summit and will be released publicly soon.

Also except for 'E' and Hoya there were no manufacturers, where are the others and where are the independents?? I met several independent optician/owners there. There were all walks of (opticianry) life there, but there just wasn't room to invite every single interest. It would have been unmanageable.
To everyone: I'll be happy to pass on what information I'm authorized to share, but keep in mind I was not an organizer for this event. I apologize if you or your favored interest was not invited or represented.

I was there, but apart from the preliminary report, there's not much else to tell right now.

Although not every facet of opticianry was represented, this was the most concerted effort at getting most of the different factions together.

FWIW, the Opticians Association of VA developed this nearly 10 years ago:

Interesting report. Lots of words but never actually says anything. I hope this initiative can get some traction and make something happen.

I don't know if it will until the entire country and all branches of the profession are involved.

Of the branches that were not represented, which do you think could have the most positive input?

That's what I was wondering. Except for the contact lens manufacturers, I could not think of any "branches" that would have positive input that were not there. I was addressing this from Jacqui:

I don't know if it will until the entire country and all branches of the profession are involved.
Keep in mind also, that we do not know who was invited that opted to not attend.

Although the team seems compentant, the outline promising, its very vague. Very. Can anyone supply more meat or were the attendees asked to sign a confidentiality agreement?

We were asked not to talk about specifics until they could be officially announced.

Is there a proposed date for real information Johns, or is the date TBD as well?

This will be an ongoing process. The initiatives need to be fleshed out. Plans for implementation need to be created. Public awareness and public and organizational support will need to occur. It's taken years of neglect to get this profession into the state it's in, and it will take years to get it straightened out. Nothing will happen overnight. There are a lot of good people working to make opticianry a real profession, and what we really need is patience and support.

I'm talking about ALL branches of this profession. Another concern is the areas that attendees were from, it seemed very heavily East Coast (half of the US population lives west of the Mississippi). I think until it becomes a bit more inclusive of all none of the ideas will work.

P.S. I don't know who was invited and who didn't show, I can only go by the information given in the report.
