    Help replacing wheel

I need to replace the diamond wheel in this hand edger. I have not changed one for several years and it was not this particular machine. I am not quite sure how to get to the wheel out on this machine. Is there anyone who can help me out?

Remove the belt, then on the underside, remove the screws that hold the yellow hubs in place. The wheel is mounted on the shaft between the hubs, I think there is a set screw holding it in place. Remove set screw and push wheel off.

Mike is right Also, I have found replacement wheels cheaper from the lapidary suppliers than from the optical companies. Get a 600 grit, they are just like the original.

Great! Thanks! I had the belt off but then missed the screws underneath the yellow hubs! I appreciate the help!

Alright, I have it all taken apart and have removed the set screw; however, the wheel will not come off. I don't think anyone has replaced the wheel or opened the machine up for any reason since they purchased it over six years ago. There is a lot of corrosion on center of the wheel and it is not moving. Any suggestions? I really appreciate the help!

    Apply Kroil (or WD-40).

Kroil is good stuff, but a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone will eat through any corrosion...and plastic(so be careful)

Save yourself a world of misery and wasted time and ditch the WD-40. The only thing that is good for is spraying in the face of a perpetrators eyes when your attacked when in your garage!

    Redhot Jumper Old timer advise.........................

Had a look at the pictures and the wheel you want to change still looks good. Have you tried to pass a truing stone over it and clean it out good. Could be that wheel is just clogged up with plastic material and does not cut well anymore. That would be an easier and cheaper solution.

Chris is correct IF its a bonded wheel, if its plated that will be the end of it. I have bonded wheels with a como 360/600 grit and a HAB groove for $150.00 less 10% Optiboard discount. don@superoptical.com
