    Confused troubleshooting ellipse vs physio

I have a pt who has been wearing an Ellipse at a 15 height & her new pair is a Physio at a 19 height. She's stating that she can't find anywere in the lens where the intermediate is clear. Optical center, pds & fitting height are dead on. Distance & near are fine.
Never before have I had a person experience difficulty going from a short corridor to a regular progressive....any suggestions??

Ellipse customers aren't good with other lenses. I tried one in a Seiko free-form and put her back into Ellipse and she is quite happy.
I have no idea why they like the Ellipse I just know that they do.

I have found that the Physio is consistently harder for people to switch to than other progressives. So, same problem, opposite observation.

Sounds normal. The only reason that the shorty seems better at intermediate is probably due to a little less plus (Add). Post the Rxs to confirm.

She should be drooling over the on and off-axis vision on the distance gaze however, especially at night, and if there was an Add bump, J1 should be a tad better also, although the latter might not be realized without a slight chin lift if she's a myope.

For those who think that a mature presbyope gets very much utility out of the intermediate on a PAL, I just took off my computer glasses and put on my general purpose PALs. If I tilt my head back about 20 degrees, I get a clear area about 4" square in the middle of the screen. The monitor is 19" at a distance of about 32", and the Add for 16" is +2.25. If you need to see at 20" to 30" frequently, get separate glasses designed for such use.

    You are really lucky then.

If people are happy in a short keep them in a short. If people like longs keep them in a long.

To me this is the key. Brands do not really matter as much anymore, of course your gonna have those occasional people who wants to stay in the same brand but this is rare IMO

when someone goes from a short to a long they have a hard time "finding" thier reading. They also complain alot about the intermediate area.

Typically when someone goes from a long to a short thier reading comes up to fast on them. Plus they also complain about the intermediate area not being large enough.

IMO it all boils down to The Long and Short of it!!

Physio Short works well at 19.

I have a +2.50 add and my glasses work well at the computer as long as the screen isn't too high.

Sorry, couple of questions that pop into my mind, 1: How old is the patient, and how long was she wearing the elipse? and 2: (ok, technically, this is 3 , what type of work is she trying to do in the intermediate zone? Heck, let me throw in one more, what add power is she prescribed?

A man went to an eye specialist to get his eyes tested and asked, "Doctor, will I be able to read after wearing glasses?"
"Yes, of course," said the doctor, "why not!"
"Oh! How nice it would be," said the patient with joy, "I have been illiterate for so long."
