Good grief !! Why would someone with conjunctivitis come in for an adjustment of their glasses. Oh, btw, she also indicated a case of flu was coming on. Maybe she feels we are immune to contagious infections.

You Pick the Answer: A) Stupidity
B) Lack of respect for others
C) Lack of common sense
D) All of the above

This is why I get a flu shot every year, keep the anti-bacterial hand gel at the dispensing table and the Lysol wipes at the ready. People have a lack of consideration for others in this country. In Japan when you are ill you wear a surgical mask in public. Seems like common courtesy to me. Either that or please stay home! I had to clean vomit last week when someone brought their child in who was obviously getting sick and proceeded to spew all over the floor. I hope I never have to do that again.
This is why I think I never get sick, because my immune system gets blasted with every germ known to man. Plus I have two short human cesspools who make sure to share all the good stuff with me too. I did get a flu shot this year when my work provided it for us, and, knock on wood, haven't gotten anything too serious yet.
Welcome to the frontlines in optical care.......don't forget about the usual risks involved re: tetanus, etc.
Isn't optical life wonderful?
Sorry, Rimless, but I disagree with all of the above reasons.
After taking care of someone who had just did a face plant on an icy street, several days ago, who needed antiseptic, towelling, and safety pins for torn clothing........I do believe that they really don't wanna be in my office, and are there in order to function well enough to go to a walk-in clinc for the rest of the care, or need encouragement to do so.
Yes, someone with an injury probably needs help, it's different when the come in sick and has disregard for others health. After working on their eyewear and having to try to keep distance, needing to disinfect tools (and myself). It's no wonder so many diseases spread like wildfire throughout the area.
btw, needing a drink after work IS part of the disinfecting process.
When I worked at the LC, we frequently got nasty red eye patients from the Doctor, who had forbid them to wear their equally infected contacts. So of course, they would try on 4000 frames, all of which I would have to put in a barrel and torch to clean. I was a fanatic, and managed to never get myself an infection, but it was gross. I guess in those instances it's understandable (other than the fact that they shoulda had a pair of glasses to begin with), but the ones who come in and are yacking up lungs, get out! I don't need no outbreak starting off in my office, thankyouverymuch.
Same goes for coworkers who come in sick. Go the heck home.

People don't think. They think thatb/c we work in a doctor's office we are allowed to be around sickpeople. I once had a young women in her early 20's come in w/ herboyfriend to pick up her eyewere.
She was hardly wearing anything andwhen she took off her glasses she had a blouse mishap and it cameundone. Rite away her boyfriend tried to cover her up. And shestopped him. She said” He is a Medical Professional. He sees stufflike this all the time.”
I don't know what her and the OD havebeen doing, but it was a 1st and sad to say a last forme.

I feel that co-workers are often under pressure to show up to work, and quite often are not full-time employees. I have observed some brutal workplaces(non optical), where termination is immediate if you don't report to work, and allow supervision to evaluate whether you are too ill to work.
You are then sent home, and get to keep your job.
If you work in a doctor's office or fill prescriptions you can expect to see sick people. Not everyone goes to the eye doctor just to buy glasses.
If you want to be around healthy ones only, join the marines, they tend to be healthy.

Had a mother bring her young son in to get his glasses. She told me "Johnny is home sick today so since he was available I thought it was a good time to pick up his glasses."
Had another adult woman picking up her glasses. As I was adjusting them and checking the position of the nose pads she said "Oh excuse my watery eyes and red nose, I have a bad cold."

I met a colleague once who had adjusted a customer's new frames. The customer was rather unwashed behind the ears, and the colleague had a small cut on her finger. She came down with a case of blood poisoning that nearly did her in...
I once had a pt bring in her child’sglasses after her dog ate them. Not sure if the pt was sick or ifthe do was. I put on gloves drop them in the sink, filled it withhot water and bleach. After I had cleaned them up, I re-adjustedthem put new nose pads on them and she was happy. I feel bad for thechild.
My all time favorite gross patient moment is....drum roll please.....
One of my favorite little old men came in for his millionth rx change, and as he was putting his frame back on, pieces of skin behind his ear started falling off onto his shoulder. Bigger than dandruff, smaller than his ear. And like the trained professional that I am, I waited to puke until after he left.
On the bright side, at least he didn't start eating them.
