Angry Patient "sees" concentric rings wearing digital progressive

Dispensed a digital 1.67 progressive to a -8.00 patient. She sees great but returned glasses because she cannot stand the fact she sees the concentric rings while she is wearing the glasses and looking out of them. Lenses have AR and edge polish. Is this the millwork on the digital itself causing this? Is this the many changes in curvature of the digital product she is experiencing? She had no trouble with a conventional Comfort 1.67 with AR and polish prior to this. I am at a loss on just what exactly to remake for her and why. HELP! This is frustrating.

    "concentric rings" i too general.

Ask her to sketch what she sees on a piece of paper.

Also get more details, does she see them at close, medium or far distance.
Does she see them all the time or only during specific activities or time periods of the day (night time)?

(i assume you have already checked the glasses and found nothing).

All I sell is digital Pal's, many hi-index as well. We have never had that complaint. Did you check the glasses for a chuck mark the edger might of made when finishing? Thats another "ring" that may be visible to the pt. in certain lighting conditions.

Probably due to reflections off of the small amount of v-bevel that remains when using a hide-a-bevel with a full metal or plastic frame. Solution- do not polish hide-a-bevels, consider polishing partial rimless, and almost always polish full rimless.

Is it a new frame? It sounds to me like an edge polish problem, based on very little info...

Give them a night time sleeping mask! They'll never see the rings that way and will be well rested and less grouchy!

We see the rings on the 1.74 because the scratch coat is a lower index. That might be what she is seeing, but they do not cause any optical issues only cosmetic as far as we can tell.

By definition, concentric rings would have the same perceived center, ie the radius is parallell. This cannot be birefringence because that would appear to have Moire.

If the rings really are concentric it would be an edge polish issue.

Another interesting tidbit to add to this thread is, about 6 years ago we had the habit of ordering stock 1.67 crizal lenses until suddenly we were getting the lenses back with concentric rings. We eventually put the lenses under a slit lamp to help determine the genisis of the problem. When the slit lamp showed even more it was a concentric ring lens issue we ordered the same stock 1.67 crizal lenses from same lab and another one, thinking since they were stock lenses maybe it was a bad batch. When the aforementioned lenses arrived we once again put them under the slit lamp with the same results, the rings weren't any less defined with the new orders. So, we quit ordering them that way from then on.
