    The Boss is Gone

What do you guys do when the boss is gone?

I spent the day catching up on my Hulu/netflix, while doing paperwork. Then the afternoon on here. Hoarders, HouseHunters international and Star Trek: Enterprise today.

BTW: It is season three and they still have not answered where Porthos poops :( Kinda killing it for me. I am sure some dorks had this discussion 10 years ago....fill me in.

30 more mins before I can lock the doors :)

*disclaimer: I am not a lazy butt...lol we have 3 people at our office including the doctor. She lets me do what I want becuase I work hard and then can sit back. My job is awesome. Some days if it is slow and we are caught up on paperwork me and the doc watch youtube vids lol. Our town is so hot and cold, when we are busy we are busy when we are slow we are dead. Finished end of year chart shredding and redid the frame boards....I need a new project. I am the main dispenser so I have to be here while we were opened. When I was clocking in and out I got raises like crazy becuase I have never been one to milk the clock...and I cannot get the spell check to work....and with that I am lazy*

Let's see, we currently have one afternoon a week with no doc in the office, which amounts to no boss in my case. We file charts, call patients to remind them to pick up specs, contacts, to check on their recent purchases of same, or to follow up with those who have had medical office visits. (Yes, we all mostly end up on the phone all afternoon) Of course there are sales, repairing, dispensing, gpcls to polish as well. There is always cleaning to catch up on and maintenance on machines. We are mostly busy bees, but we have been known to share some coffee and sweets on these afternoons and to turn up the radio in the back office quite a bit louder than when the docs are present. =)

When the boss is gone I play boss as it naturally falls to me but the atmosphere is quite a bit more relaxed. As long as everyone's work gets done there is nothing wrong with a little downtime.

I'm sorry, but has trying to better one's self and in the end doing a better job gone out the window. I believe that if you aren't doing "work" for the practice, you should be cracking the books/researching how you can do a better job and improve your patient's lives. There's always an opportunity to do something productive. Take advantage of it. I don't believe in downtime while you're being paid or even if you are the owner. I see too many opportunities.

Spent the whole day 8:00 - 5:00 doing nothing because the hydro company decided it would be a good time to change a bunch of wires. Shut down half of the retailers in the city for the whole day.

I have a portable camp hammock that I set up in the lab. Sleep the day away...

Seriously, there's always work to do: things to clean, files to file, plans to make, supplies to buy, OptiBoard to fart around on...

While I have worked for other people, I have never had a Boss to stand over me and make sure I was working. Always did as much as I could whether anyone else was there or not.

I have worked at 3 eyeglasses places. The1st I worked 60 to 70 hrs a weeks saw 20 to 25 pts a day and wasdead at the end of the week. Low pay and had to pay for my on healthins. My next Dr's office was an MD short lived, cameras everywhere.1 job a day, low pay and no health ins and 50% of the jobs I did wereredos b/c the teks could not refact. Worst 3 months of my life!

Been here for 5 months ok pay ok work. Total paid health ins and it is great! Never had this before. The Dris only here 3 ½ days a weeks so we can do what we want the rest ofthe time. My other 2 co-worker who have been here for awhile sit andplay Facebook games and talk about how bad it is and how they ain’tgoing to take much more of this crap. Wal-Mart is better they say. Just don't know what to think. Funny I say.

    i am the boss.

I usually have 3-4 piles of "stuff" in progress at any given time, and it usually goes home with me as well.

looking to hire someone soon so i can see what these days off are that everyone keeps talking about.

And now from the other side of the looking glass. What my employees prefer to do when I'm not "looking" has to be Facebook, youtube, and checking their emails. I've limited the cell phone stuff so I assume that's been relegated for the crapper.

Sometimes, I like it when he's gone. I worked for myself, by myself for years and still fall back on my old habits of organizing the day the way I think best. There's always something to do even if it's sweeping the floor or cleaning the lenses. I don't have a tough time working with the boss, but I would with some who have posted to this thread.
