Greatest sports chokes of all time...

We've all done it. An absolutely positively must do to win and... yikes!

After yesterdays missed field goal Bill Cundiff will be remembered for the rest of his life for the hooked field goal that perhaps cost the Ravens a chance to play in the Superbowl.

I'll wait to see if someone guesses what I think is the greatest choke ever. Meanwhile what's yours from your own personal history or in pro sports?

I really liked that kick, as it made Norwoods wide right look good in the super bowl. ( If I didn't know any better, I would say he made way more than a game check for that feeble attempt.)

Fester, the Ravens wouldn't even been there if Jones didn't fumble the 1st punt in the Houston game!

    Maybe this?

I even remember the Mexican bar/eatery we were at when it happened (El Camino in Milwaukee).

How about the Woman's National Soccer team losing in the WORLD CUP FINAL on penalty kicks to Japan (they were previously undefeated in prior penalty kick shoot outs).

I think Hope Solo and the gal's choked big time!

I didn't get it first but that's just because I just got here......

    Uncle Fester,
It HAS to be BUCKNER......no other choke comes close. In fairness, Baseball is a team sport and the rest of the team could have put more runs up, but in terms of chokeability, that play is the one.....hey look at that.......I just invented a word!

Actually I understand Buckners' moment of infamy. If you'll recall he was playing with bone spurrs on both heels and I think the pain from him reaching down for the slow roller prevented him from getting it. Now the Torrez meatball to Buckey (you know whating) Dent- YOUCH!!!

I'm blocked from youtube here at work so I'll try to look at Roberts video at home.

Anyone else care to join in?

Buckner wasn't pitching. He's not the goat Red Sox fans should have fixated on.

I got some bad news for you Uncle Fes, there are more Red Sox fans than there are Ski Jump fans- no way this was the greatest choke in sports history!

I guess you never heard of Bill Buckner! I was born in 1940 and since I can remember I have been a Red Sox fan. I even have clear memory of the 1946 World Series. The greatest hitter of all time was and remains a hero to me. I am from New England and well know if you ask anyone around these parts what the biggest choke in sports history that the result will be Buckner. We have forgiven him, but not forgotten.Don't bring up anyone from today's era to talk about decline. We all KNOW it already.

    Pretty funny tape anyway!

    Hey Jilson,
Just wanted to say us New York fans can admit this type of thing too.
Case in point.... Joe Pisarcik's fumble ranks up there too!

Never ever will I be convinced kickers are athletes. This "pass" is proof.
They're padded soccer player-type humans, mostly white skinny dudes, who play all of 5-6 plays a game and decide the fate of the game where 50 other guys battled it out, only to pray they can kick it thru at the end.

Harry, what about The Bruins collapse against the Flyers in 2010? Bruins were up 3 - 0 in games, then 3 - 0 in goals in game 7 and wound up losing.

Nothing to compete with Buckner's booble. Bruins had enjoyed Stanley Cups since 1918- Sox had not enjoyed a World Series victory. To a Sox fan, not even close.
