Anyone hear of a new lens available for macular degeneration? I had someone ask me about it and I confess I've never even heard of it. Exactly what can a lens do besides magnify?

Amazing how "technology" resurfaces time and time again (no pun intended). This particular concept has been around for more than 50 years, with as little success now as then.
The Maculens(tm) has prism built into it to move the image from the compromised fovea to a working part of the retina. Sounds great!
However, as soon as an object is located off the fovea, the eye responds to move it into the region of central vision, even if that region is non-functional.
On balance, one has to decide "not to look" at the image in question. The net result is the equivalent of 'eccentric fixation', which is a viewing technique that is free.
Save the $$ spent on these specialty lenses, and save your customers the angst.

FWIW, the Corning CPF 511 can help in the earlier stages.
