Pretty awesome so far. They are releasing it officialy in a couple weeks, but I've seen the demo. Pretty fast both directions. I'm sure Transitions will release something as well soon. Only available in a few lens options.

Anyone have any new information on this lens since it has been released? I would be interested in hearing what people who have seen it or used it have to say!

I only know what Transitions is saying. The photofusion won't hold up .

    Thumbs up PhotoFusion wearer here

Disclaimer: I received a free pair at the start of the year to test the new technology.
A big Thank You to the people at Carl Zeiss for the opportunity and for the excellent lenses.

Here PhotoFusion is positioned as a better photo-technology than Transitions.

I used them this summer in Individual 1.6 PhotoFusion LotuTec.
The reaction speed is great both ways (IMO faster than Transitions). Very low residual colour.

Used them as sunglasses the whole summer at the beach and they go very dark even at high temperatures (40 degrees Celsius/104 degrees Fahrenheit).

Also they are tough --> swam with them 2-3 times (in salty seawater), and they remained perfect.

The colour is good, greys has a slight green-ish tint (have not tried brown).

They react slightly in cars (i haven't measured actual transmission levels).
Generally i'm very happy with them .

    Best regards,

What instrument do you use to measure transmission levels? I'd like to pick up something relatively affordable for light transmission and UV measurements if that is possible.

Some colleagues use the transmission measurement function of their lens meters.
You can plug the lens meter in the car using a DC/AC converter.

For example the TopCon CL-2800 measures transmission:

(We use only Nidek lens meters and they don't have the function ... but they are the best lens meters IMO )

Does the Photofusion substrate have less of a tendency to warp than Transitions?

AFAIK PhotoFusion is a thin layer of photo-active substance.

    The base lens should be the same: MR8 (n=1.6), MR10 (n=1.67) and CR39/ADC (n=1.5).

I don't think the photo layer will drastically change the mechanical properties of the lens.
But then again i haven't tested this nor have i seen any data confirming this hypothesis.

You can find the mechanical and other properties of the MR series of monomers here:

I'm hoping it will warp way less than CR-607. Use a small "B" frame and in any kind of heat, the Transitions will assume the shape of a potato chip.

Matching BC with the frame fixes that problem, my plano rx's are on a 4.5BC
