Bart Smith, continuing to be awesome since 1982 so that you don't have to.
Love is a duet, each voice complementing each other and making them sound better than they would alone, each voice at times stepping back and letting the other shine. We've got a pretty good duet going Tina.
On April 28th, I'll be marrying my best friend. I can't wait!
Does the organization have a 'color', like many cancers do? You could sell bracelets with the color on them? Or do a calander with pictures drawn by children that have benefitted from the org. Or are you talking about like a $1000/ plate kind of fundraiser?
Bart,
I have several ideas!
First, you are in a great area... with so many of the top hospitals nearby.. I bet you can get some medical professionals willing to pay $$ to participate in something like a golf tournament.. Perhaps one of the local country clubs would be willing to host the event to get their name out and to show off their facilities to potential members..
There is the Pepsi Refresh project, where you could put up your idea and have people vote to get you a grant
Partner up with Helping Hands, or another organization to promote the cause.
Approach a local restaurant/store to solicit donations on your behalf. The Balloons, Shamrock, Silhouette for $1 thing..
The bracelets are a good idea.. I can teach you how to do a simple and cheap chainmaille bracelet using rubber rings and aluminum .. or you can always go for the rubber "live strong" type..
There are walks... similar to the "Light the Night" or "Race for the Cure" type...
Poker tournament
Raffles with donated goods/services.. or auction
Of course a lot of businesses would be willing to donate money/goods/services for a 501-C charity for the tax write off. The Para-Olympics or other organization might be willing to help sponsor it too. Seems there are a good amount of para-olympians in your area..
I guess a lot of it depends on what activities you want to have, how many families you believe would be in attendance, and your primary goal of the conference.

I hope and have heard rumors that they are going to finally stop giving away money in the Washington area.
