Closing a Store

Have any of you closed up a store before by going out of business?

- How long did you give it from the decision to close date?
- When did you stop selling?
- Did you do any going out of business sales?
- How did you handle doctor records?
- How did you handle complaints that you were closing?

A OD I used to work for made arrangements with another OD to take the patient records. He provided a contact number on the business door if people had any issues with their glasses (warranty and such). He did a mailing of current patients a month before closing his doors. I think he stopped taking retail orders two weeks before the closing date but made arrangements with OD taking the records to also handle any orders that were delivered after the closing date.

The Ontario College might have guidelines as to records, and what may be/have to be, done with them.
