    Remote desktop options?

Is anyone aware of an easily used windows program that allows remote desktop log ins to an offsite computer? I'm trying to help an old OptiBoarder with their new practice management software, and it'd be far easier to log in remotely, and show him many of the tips and tricks we've been discussing over the phone.

Thanks in advance for any and all info...

    Bri~

I have been involved with several. The best so far is http://logmein.com, but not the free version it cost's some $ 30.00 and if stuck the service is superb, one phone call and problems are solved right away.

I've always been a fan of vnc http://www.realvnc.com/ I've never had it not work. Setting up ports if you have a solid firewall can be tricky, but not hard.

The best one is teamviewer. You can easily download it as it is free to download and very user friendly software. Try it and let me know.

I like PCAnywhere. You can buy the software once (ebay) and it works for free forever. You don't necessarily need the latest version.

Log me in (free version) did not work to log into my office server (IT guy said it was due roaming IP address). I'd like to be able to log in from home as well.

I'm using splashtop to use an iPad2 and a Windows 7 machine. I LOVE it.

Tell the IT dude to setup a static IP for the server and forward all logmein port requests to the server.

Try using gosupportnow remote support service. It is easy to use and costs only $19.95/ month.

Try a dynamic DNS service to mmimic a static IP solution. Make sure you connect through a VPN or your inviting folks to start testing ports to see if your box has open ports or exploitable vulnerabilities.

I've used it for a long time without any hassles. It's a good choice.

Static IP, in your cable modem/DSL modem, use port forwarding to point port 3389 to which ever PC you want to remotely access, then use the built-in windows "Remote Desktop", a feature in windows since at least the XP version.

I tend to join - Teamviewer is the best choice in this case.

Remote Desktop doesn't let you share the remote screen (unless there's functionality there of which I'm unaware) - which is what's called for in this instance.

    Teamviewer allows screen sharing.

Indeed TeamViewer does, and it does it well. They have a free version that may suffice; as I recall, it only allows 5-minute remote control sessions (or was it 15?). GoToAssist also works well, but I don't think there's a free version of that.

I've switched to the free version of TeamViewer recently. I have not noticed any time limit on it, and I have left remote sessions going for hours.

I think it's not time-limited if you declare that it's for private (non-commercial) use.

You are right. As far as I know, you can use the free version for non-commercial needs.

Teamviewer is free for non-commercial use, but I noticed I get prompted to buy the commercial version after a while if I use it for personal use during normal work hours, but not prompted very often if using it nights or weekends. But even if you get prompts to buy the commercial version you can dismiss the prompts and continue on.

TeamViewer or Microsoft Remote Desktop. Both are good ones for connecting remote devices.

I would also recommend TeamViewer, cause all other good alternatives - require payments for the good experience of using.
