    Lightbulb Alternative to Gradal RD

I have a patient wanting an "office" style lens that gives him vision a little further out than what the Shamir Office seems to allow. I have an old chart from a Zeiss RD, but our lab is no longer handling Zeiss products.

Anyone know of an alternative lens that fits this option?

Couldn't resist...why not find a lab that can handle your Zeiss work?

    What she said.

However, the Shamir FreeForm Office does have a dynamic design (as opposed to their FreeForm Office static design) that gives more distance vision at the top of the lens. Essentially their static FreeForm Office is made for people who sit at a computer and don't move very much. The dynamic design is for people who walk around a bit more, or need to see across their office/cube. It's still not going to give them full distance vision, but it's better than a standard Office lens.

Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

I'm going to check into the free form for now, thanks. I will keep checking to see if any other ideas get thrown in here too.

The reason I don't find a lab to do Zeiss is that I (nor the Doctor) want to open a new lab account just to process one pair of lenses. We are quite happy with our current labs. Typically we use the standard Shamir Office, this just happens to be an isolated incident where I need that specific Zeiss lens.

We haven't run that many of them, but the accounts that have ordered them have said that their patients are happy with the lens.

And I can understand not wanting another lab, especially just for one pair of lenses. However, in my personal opinion, if you're using more than one lab (and by your post it seems that way) there should be no lenses you cannot get.

Start with a Gradal Top or similar design. Add +.50 to +1.00 to the distance as required for the best compromise between distance blur/discomfort and intermediate utility. Don't forget to subtract the above amount from the add for reading. Voilà, pseudo RD.

I have not worn but have heard the new Essilor computer lens has almost the full distance in it. Yes it is the big E but the clinic I am presently working for is into their product and one of the Docs swears by the lens

It's hard to believe the RD gets used much because of the 25mm min fitting height.
