What's your favourite John Wayne movie???

OK! I've been saving this one for when times are slow and things might be getting a little boring with girlie talk! :shiner:

Feel free to speak your piece Pilgrims -Whats your favorite John Wayne movie.I have to be totally honest.I like em ALL but some better than others.I can't pass one up if I find it while surfing.Who can forget his Mr Dunston in Red River- or Sgt Stryker in Sands of Iwo Jima.Davy Crockett wasn't his finest but neither was rooster Cogburn and he got a well deserved Oscar for that.

I think I first became a fan with Fort Apache-back in 49-followed shortly after by She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. So I'd have to start with my favorite as being my first, Fort Apache.

    What about you?

    Harry!

I am a pure John Wayne Western lover! But my favorite has to be "The Quiet Man" Not a western but a great Film!

After that the Shootist, True Grit, Roster Cogburn, Maclintock, Big Jake, The Cowboys, Cahill U.S. Marshall, and every other western.

Thank god for Ted Turner! I can watch John just about every weekend!

The Cowboys, True Grit, The Undefeated, The Comancheros, The Shootist, and The Searchers. (I have yet to see Hondo yet and I loved the Book as a kid)

"The Wake of the Red Witch" is by far his best and his best script.

Depicts a man who is respected, loved and feared even by his worst enemy.

My daddy was a John Wayne fanatic and my mom was waiting for him to divorce so she could leave my daddy for him. So, needless to say, I saw every movie he was ever in at the drive-in as a kid. I remember the Rooster Cogburn one the most. I thought he was both tough and human!

It's gotta be " The Quiet Man". Of course, I don't believe there is a John Wayne movie that I don't like.

My dad is a big John Wayne fan, so I grew up watching him.
My favorite has to be McClintock.

I am horrible with movie titles...

My favorite is one in which he comes back to a town where his friend (forget the guys name, but he sings) was the sherriff. Unfortunately, now the friend is a hopeless drunk and no one respects him (at one point, they make him fish a dollar out of a spit-toon for a drink). Meanwhile, The Duke is sorta kinda falling in love with this actress...

I think that is also the movie with my favorite Duke line "I'm not gonna hit ya, like hell I'm not!"

My other favorites are the The Sands of Iwo Jima and the one where he plays an old marshall named Rooster.

    Pete:

Don't know about the friend's name but he was played by Dean Martin. Other compadres were Ricky Nelson and Walter Brennan.
Movie was Rio Bravo, think it's playing on one of the Turner stations tonight.

How can we forget Chisum, The War Wagon(with kurt douglas) and The Sons of Katie Elder(another with dean martin)

I must say my all time favorite Western is The Outlaw Josey Wales. Eastwood not wayne but a classic. Hang-um High is another great one.

That's right... it was Rio Bravo! That old geyser fella played in several of the old westerns, and the girl who falls for The Duke (whoever she was) was quite attractive as well.

My favorite all time western (this will draw "boos," because its pretty modern and doesn't have John Wayne) is Tombstone with Sam Elliott, Charlton Heston, Val Kilmer, and Kurt Russell... There was also an Eastwood Flick with Shirley MacLain (sp?) as a nun that is entertaining (something like Two Mules for Sister Sarah or something like that).

My dad loves westerns, and we always watch a bunch of them on the Western Channel (two cable channels that show nothing but westerns 24/7) when they visit. Of course, at the beginning of each, he always says "Oh, this is the one where he does blah, blah and so and so" since he's seen them about a quadrillion times each!

Not a massive John Wayne fan, more of an Eastwood fan (not quite as cultured, I know).

I defy anyone to disagree that Unforgiven is the finest western of modern times. None of this shooting someone 200 feet into the air with a smoking 45, just a good portrayel of the hardships of the time. Well, I liked it.

It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree.

The Searchers, best last shot in a film ever.

El Dorado and Rio Bravo are fun (but of course essentially the same film!)

Stage coach, made Wayne and his co star Clare Trevor (one to miss the terrible re make with Bing Crosby as the drunken doctor, why does Hollywood have to make remakes of Classic films, how can they be anything other than a poor copy?)

I don't have a favorite John Wayne movie. There are so many that I can't name just one. I've always like McLintoch(sp) because of the humor. Fort Apache is great, The Shootist, Rooster Cogburn, and the list goes on.

Yesterday I watched Tall in the Saddle. I like those old B movies he made. I'm a Saturday morning western kind of guy.

    Big Smile Sorry to disagree...

The great John Wayne made 2 el stinkos. "Gengis Kahn" and the one about the diplomat and the geisha.

Everything else is just about pure gold.

I love John Wayne. If I had been born 40 years earlier, I might have run off to Hollywood (surely we would meet and fall madly in love).

I like the opening scene of "Stagecoach". The ending in "the Searchers". Overall favorites are "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" and the one where he falls for a Quaker gal (title escapes me right now). I also liked "The Green Berets", although it was tough subject matter.

Ugh... the little kid with the dog was just too over the top for me!

If I remember correctly, John Wayne dies at the end of "The Sands of Iwo Jima." Its so rare to have the hero of the movie die at the end...

I've always like McLintoch(sp) because of the humor.
Actually, John Wayne was pretty good at delivering humorous lines, wasn't he? Kinda like Roger Moore as James Bond- he was the best at delivering those dry one-liners!
