    Zeiss vs. Hoya

I am looking at switching to Hoya Lab. I have used Hoya in the past and was very happy. However I relocated and the new office I work at uses Zeiss. I am also pretty happy with them.

I am trying to compare the lenses. I currently use the Reveal Freeform and sometimes the Individual. I am trying to compare apples to apples. Does this mean I would compare the IQ to the Reveal FF and the ID lifestyle to the Individual?

Obviously I cant post prices or note discounts so don't let that be too much of a factor in the opinionated responses. ; p.

I am currently calculating my cost difference but I need to know if the IQ is the apple to Reveal FF.

OR you could use an independent lab and order what you want.

    Just a thought...

+1 and I like the name in Gold :)
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

aren't most independent labs getting bought out by essilor? I have heard of quite a few and would really rather not go with Essilor. Too many bad experiences with customer service.

    :drop:

So, wait, are you saying you won't support ANY independent labs because they might get bought by Essilor? I understand not wanting to support Essilor, but wow....

And I can think of several independent labs that would sooner close up than sell out.....

Its not that. I would like to support Independent but I am not aware of any locally. And after dealing with Pech for so long having to mail jobs and returns make the process much more frustrating than using the labs carrier. I though a lab was an independent till I learned the fell to the giant a couple months ago.

Ok, sorry. Back to the original question.

Here's a good thread on the Reveal: http://www.optiboard.com/forums/show...ghlight=reveal

I think you would be better comparing the Zeiss Individual to the Hoya ID (in terms of optical quality). I think you'd be better comparing the Reveal to the ID Lifestyle. On the other hand, Zeiss has their new wrap lens to which Hoya does not have a comparable product and Hoya has the Mystyle which is very patient specific. (There was a good thread on the Mystyle recently too.)

So yes, find a lab you can get both from :)

Ultra Lens is now owned by Essilor and How can it be independent is if it called "HOYA" Largo.

I had alot of lens issues with a couple others on the list which will remain nameless because I don';t like to bash anyone but Luxottica and Essilor.

So after some financial research... using an independent lab for zeiss and hoya products actually hurts me and due to the fact that I am a small operation, I don't have the kind of wiggle room to use an independent for the cost(as much as I would like to). So that in mind... I am going to contue my research on the best lenses in whole for my patients. Unfortunately being a small practice hinders me from using 2 different labs and still recieve a good discount...

We have used several independent labs (4 in last 1.5 yrs) and we finally came back to Hoya Atl. They have superior products (with exceptions of wrap lenses), great prices, and the reps/service have been awesome.
