Confused question for John r and the brits

I deal in some jewelry on occasion and i have alweays noticed the brits have a fascination with jewelry that is only 9 carats, which is only about 37 percent gold, which seems like it would tarnish rather rapidly. Curious what is the deal with 9carat gold

    Harry,

Not sure that Brits like jewellery any more than any other other nation. We tend to be a bit conservative about how we decorate ourselves!

Personally I think a watch is enough jewellery for a man...

COST would be a good guess.. Like 10p a watch is more than enough for me.. but some folks like to wear a lot, ring on each finger more necklaces than "MR T".. they just rattle down the street...
I guess there must be a bit of the scotch in us all...

It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree.

I can't say I've ever noticed a tendency towards 9 carat, although it's obviously popular on the other side of the moors :)
It's popular with erm, certain elements of the community, however. They have necklaces with 'mum' and 'nana' written on them. But as Darris will tell you, the only accessory a girl needs is a Mecklace.

    Maria,

This side of t'moor 9 carat is far too pricey. A t'lump of t'coal and t'carrot would more than suffice for decorative goods, after all, it's good enough for t'birthdays & t'christmas.

Must go now, I've got to nip out to buy a new flat cap to go with my whippet. AND I've lost me favorite ferret. Bug*er.

Less gold = harder, lasts longer, marks less, cheaper, looks as good, better value for money...

Can't think of any other reasons :D

A wedding ring and a watch, occasionally cufflinks and a tie clip are all that a gentleman really needs to wear, anything else is excessive!!:bbg:
