    Cure for Hiccups

I just read an interesting article on Hiccup cures. Before I Post some proven cures, I am wondering what you all have heard may work to cure one who suffers from the hiccups.

    paper towel drinking

NT...If you place a paper towel over a glass of H20 and lean forward so your head is upside down and drink from the outside rim of the glass until all the water is gone.

The only ones that come to mind are............holding your breath or taking a teaspoon of sugar

    Night train,

This one has NEVER failed me. It requires two people. Have someone hold a glass of water as you are drinking it. You can't touch the glass! It sounds simple but it works great! You only have to drink 2 or 3 oz. and they are gone.

This one works for small children (not toddlers) too!
Sip a non-carbonated drink through a straw while holding fingers over ear openings, for several sips before drawing a breath. Adult can help child to hold the ears closed. Don't have to hold head in weird position, or sing underwater, or dance naked thru the park....unless you want to! :D

    Mind over matter...

I take a mouthful of water.I then place my index fingers into my ears, blocking out all sound. Then I concentrate on swallowing the water as slowly as possible By the time the last drop is down, the hiccups should be gone.I have never had to repeat this method more than once.

I think the idea behind that method, and most all others is the concentration.Your mind is occupied with something other than "How can I get rid of these damn hiccups?"Most of the other methods require doing something that will keep you from hyperventilating, which exacerbates the hiccups.

    Wait till..

It goes by itself just as it comes !! Hiccups are not as a disease.
It's sort of involunetory Disco done by our body as a time pass.
Enjoy it ! According to Indian heritage, one gets hicuups when some loved one far away remembers you, so you start guessing
who is it and spread them all over! Harry, Steve, Chip,Shanbaum can blame me for recent hicquakes!:bbg:

    Heres what I read:

Spasms of the diaphram produce a hiccup. The diaphram is the most important breathing muscle, drawing air into the lungs when it descends into the abdomen and expelling air when it rises toward the chest. (Maiking, by the way, death by crucifixion a most difficult process)

Ay any rate, Swallowing a teaspoon of sugar or eating lemon wedges soaked in angostura bitters, sets off reflexes that often abolish hiccup attacks. (Ummm, be sure to remove the rind from the lemon wedge first)

Breathing into a paper bag is another good way, as it creates a buildup of carbon dioxide, and that, in turn, causes changes in body chemistry that often end a hiccup siege..

Lastly, there is the ever popular method of being "scared out of your hiccups". A good way to produce such a scare is to imagine Darris as President.:drop:

This is my tried and true method. I swallow a good gulp of air and make myself burp very big. As you know the burp is the opposite of the hiccup, so it works every time!

Not very ladyike, I know, but I make sure no one is around!:D
