Santenilli 9000 sx Problem

Ok guys ....This one has me ..
my edger is giving me fits on such a weird and small problem.
The blocking arm is connected to a worm gear that pushes the chuck shut. When it opens it extends too far and comes apart which does not allow it to close on the lens in the next cycle. There is a micro switch that i thought would open and therefore shut the motor off and not allow the chuck to open too far and therefore disengage, but it (although) working seems to make no difference.
I can reset it by hitting the start switch and gently pushing the worm gear in to re-engage it and everything works until it is opened again.
Maybe a relay problem?

This sounds like a call to Santinelli to me. We've had a 9000sx for 7-8 years and never a prob like this. The tech guys are very helpful. Good luck and sorry I couldn't be of much help.

I am not familiar with your edger, but....it sounds like a loose set screw/stop set screw to me. Look at the worm gear housing for caps that may cover hidden set screws.

Thank you for your reply. As i bought the edger from another optician santenlli will not help.......Anyone got any ideas..
looked for a set screw.....I have had this simple assembly apart about 10 times and just am missing some clue.
There are only wires to the micro switch and a seperate set going to the motor while both sets go to the computer.
any help will be greatly appreciated. really feeling dumb........jim

Does it ever give you an error code?

Here is what Tech would have walked you through:

Error (0501) the chucking motor does not run.

Does the rifht chucking shaft move smoothly? If no return machine to nidek If yes see below.

Does Cable CA40 Have a break? Yes or No If yes replace the lens measuring assembly

Does Cable CA43 have a break? Yes or No If yes replace the lens measuring assembly

Does the DC motor have a break? Yes or No If yes replace the motor

Does the cable CA44 have a break? Yes or No If yes replace the cable

If you answer NO to all of them they will tell you that you need to replace the mainboard.
