Depends on what you are trying to clean. If it is nose/face cheese, then use super hot water and a grease busting dish soap. And follow it up with a toothbrush and another shot in the ultrasonic. Rinse and repeat as many times as necessary. I wouldn't use a solvent of any kind, just plain hot water and dish soap.

    Cautions or sales?

Some Ultra sonic cleaner mfgs. say don't use anything other than water or thier ultra sonic stuff added to water. I have wondered for some time if stuff like varsol or other parts cleaners were likely to explode or catch fire or if they just wanted you to use thier stuff.

Usually, ultrasonic cleaning solutions (the non-hazardous to your health type that is) are low-sudsing soaps. The drawback is that as the ultrasonic works, the low bubble formulation for the soap somewhat retards the cleaning ability of the solution. That's why I've just gone with a quality grease cutting dish soap, usually 1 cap or so to a quart of very hot water.

.........and they are right. You should know better than heating up solvents which might explode in your face.

For cleaning you use surfactants, (soap family and there are over 18,000 of them on the market) mixed into water.

However the best will win. Shortest cleaning time and most universal use.

We always used Liquinox in our ultrasonic cleaners.

The four pound box will last years. We also kept a toothbrush and a bar of Ivory soap next to the sink for cleaning those pesky guard arms and nose pads prior to ultrasonic cleaning.

For cleaning fuel injector nozzles, carburetors or auto parts in general we found GumOut to work real well.

PS Don't use an ultrasonic cleaner to bathe hamsters or pet mice no matter what solvent or detergent you use.

We use about 3 table spoons of Mr Clean in the ultra sonic cleaner. Seems to do well and does not harm the life of the frame or lens or AR lens for that matter followed by a clean water rinse. Hilco has a product called ultrasonic C that seems to work well too. Yes of course, a tooth brush close by is very handy for the nose/face cheese.
