looking for job in Memphis or in the area

I have been looking to move to the Memphis area for awhile now. I can not find any job listings for Memphis or the surrounding areas at all not even in the Memphis paper. Is there a reason for this that anyone knows of? I thought this area needed opticians. If anyone can tell me of any openings or pay scale please let me know. I really want to relocate but I don't want to get there and find the same problem I am already experience with the job market here.

My friends who were the former owners of Mid-South Contact Lens in Memphis told me that it had become too dangerous for anyone of your culture (and most other cultures) to live there. They all moved to Southaven, M.S. an worked in Memphis. Are you sure you want to live/work there?

Yes I check 20/20visionsource every single day and nothing, Cindy. Chip, I don't want to live in Memphis I don't even have to work in Memphis just near. Southhaven was actually where I have been looking for a job/house. I have also been looking in several other of the surrounding areas. I was just there this weekend and absolutely loved MS!!! Tunica was great!! Especially for me growing up outside Atlantic City this was a real change!! Even in the Memphis paper though no advertisements for jobs. It just really seems strange especially since I have heard the area really needs licensed opticians.

What I would suggest is to go there and rip out the optical and OD/MD pages from the yellow pages or go to www.anywho.com and get a list of the optical shops in the areas you want to live. Contact the local chamber of commerce as well.

Give all of them your name and phone number. Your vital stats. When you will be there, that you are licensed, when you can start. Then tell them "you may not be looking, but if you know a friend that is could you pass this on for me".

I know one thing about the optical community it is a small place and everybody knows everybody else's business.

When I go out recruiting this is the method I use and it hasn't failed me yet. Also when I was a store manager looking for help, I would mention I was looking to people calling for RX's or if I called for RX's and it never failed to get me help. I usually got nobody from the places I called or visited, but everyone had a friend who was looking or could tell you who was.

HAHAHAHA!!! Cindy I did just that!!!! My husband thought I was nutts, but I said how else am I going to get all this info??? I called a few of them today and so far everyone seems interested. Who knows? I just hope to be out of here before winter. I can't make a living in this town I am sorry to say. Everyone here wants to hire me but no one wants to pay me.
