    The Costliest Spectacle

What is the Highest Price of a Single Rx Spectacle ( One Pair Glasses + 1 Frame )some body you know ( Incl. yourself) has sold or purchased ?
Is that figure more than the Highest sold Goggles ?
Who was the person known to have spent on a single spectacle at a single purchase ,More than anybody else on this Planet till date?

I sold two pairs of 18-kt gold + pave diamond with buffalo horn temples made by my friend, Franco. Maison d' Optique. Studio City, California. $7,800 each.

My customers requested to engrave their names as trade mark, date of birthday as the model number.

    How about 2 pair, $11,000.00?

Well, Jerry, I think you hold the record!

    Here's my attempt:

One client years ago (at Lugene, Boston) purchased two pair from me:

    1 Zeiss solid gold, $4,000.00
1 genuine tortoise shell, custom made from a zyl model by Henri Lieto, France. $7,000.00

He couldn't decide between the solid gold dressy look, or the business look of the tortoise (gorgeous tones).

I said, "Wouldn't it be great to have both looks?" thinking it was a long shot, and he went for it!

    : )

    "the good ol' days??"

    John,
I would charge a patient the same thing. His insurance coverage paid for the whole thing, Lucky guy. Anyways, most of my friends don't ask for deals. It's not my money I'd be giving away.

    Hi,

Franco and I are going to custom build a eyewear line by using 18K solid gold + diamond insertion. All material we are using are natural such as gold, platinum, silver, wood, horn. No chemical plating and no synthetic plastic + 100% made in Los Angeles.

You see! we have very bad price competition here in LA for brand name eyewears because there is one optical or sunglasses store on every other block + number of frames sold a day is down to 10 pairs compares to 60 jobs a day in the old day. $30 profit is the maximum we can make for a pair of Armani frame + clip. We have to do something more unique in order to survive!

Jerry, do you do this work on premises? How do you take the gold and go about making the frame? You really should have a website for this. Even though your clientele would probably just fly across country to have these made for them you should really have more exposure. I am totally intrigued.

    edKENdance,

Just be honest. We love Jerry's frames and just want to be the first to see them. Jerry, you will have to run your premiers on OptiBoard!

EdKENdance is right. You need to get the word out about your frame lines.

    Ed,

Making frames by platinum, gold and silver takes the exact same process like jewelry and watch. The photo image above was done by casting and then the 60 pcs of 1.8 mm diamond is set on each frame one by one by drilling, deburring, and pressure press on the prong. My friend, Franco, should take the credit for making those two beautiful art pieces.

    Please check: www.gia.org

They teach lots techniques on jewelry manufacturing.

We are working on a web site which allow visitors to change the colors of frame, add precious decoration metal, plug in gem stones on the glasses and even try on visitor's face. It fuctions pretty much same as photo image mirror system.

All tools and equipment are available at: www.riogrande.com

It's fun to sell big stuff.

JERRY HUANG, you be in the fraternity of custom guys.
You are to be respected for what you do.
Needless to say . . . your hands should be in the opticians Hall of Fame (yeh, right . . along with the Walmart Techs!)

Sold Neostyle Boutique 380 solid gold, $6400.00
$4800.00 Real Tortoise from Granada, boiled it meself! Stones mounted by Orofino Jewelers, Encino, California, total $13,000.00

But, the best was a wonderful and brilliant technician named Hans Feibig with Optique Boutiqe........ Mr. "John" wore his electric glasses on stage. Incredible.

I never sold, but seem to remember Tura haveing some offerings that were around $25,000 retail just for the frame. And I do remember Diamond Jim Brady having quite a few spectacles (which gave a whole new meaning to the word) encruste with diamonds that were over $100,000 in 1950's money!

    Wow Jediron,

I had heard that a good NY optician makes upwards of 60 - 70k/yr!

There is quite a range in salaries in AZ for a staff optician - between $8/hr to $17/hr. Management pays more. There are doctors here that have offered a licensed optician $8/hr to run a dispensary with a straight face. The sad thing is that somewhere, out there, someone at one point was willing to work for that...

The average optician here pulls down about 28k/yr. according to that thread that was posted about optician's salaries by state.

I have a few associates who make between the 20-25$/hr mark, work for OD's AND make commission. But they have proven track records in the industry and their employers see the value in the services they provide. Scripting not included!

Imagine that! Is this the same Arizona?
