I'll take your PD and adjust your new glasses at the "PD Kiosk"

Coming soon the " PD Kiosk". At a mall or strip center near you. For a fee of $ 45.00 we will take your PD and adjust your new glasses purchased online. We will adjust second pairs for $25.00. Re-adjust them for $15.00 each. We will also adjust your glasses purchased anywhere for $15.00 - $25.00 depending on how bad they are.:bbg:

It will work anywhere in Canada Chris because who would oppose it ?

The "twist" is that the store teaches people how easy it is to order on line and familiarizes people with the company and it's products. If you put a computer in a mall and people use it themselves to place an order , the same as they could do in a library, then what laws are broken ?

The regulatory Colleges are out of cash and balls anyhow.

The GG stores are still operating.

You got a good point there. Then it probably will spread like the Cholera in the islands.

And you are right.................with the kiosks no laws are broken as nobody plays a licensed optician and measures or adjusts glasses. This means they could do it even in Quebec which seems to have the best laws in Canada to cover opticianry.

Its not funny but I forecast this exacxt issue on OptiBoard in the early 2000 th at some discussion about the future in the optical.

Let's see 'em do the job right. I think 33% of jobs will work, and 2/3's won't.

Totally wrong drk....................you should have said 2/3rd will or might and 33 will not work.

The concept should send a clear message to the current opticianary business model:

There are those....... who hope things happen
There are those .......who make things happen
    &
There are those....... who wonder what just happened.

Just like the many third party insurance programs introduced in the 90's many professionals (myself included) gawked at their ability to develop and grow to what they are today. Now it is reality that we must work around these issues in our daily business routine.

On-line retail is a relatively new concept and we are beginning to see the serious players taking a step to work the bugs out. Therefore, we need to do a good self-evaluation rather than keep going into work patting ourself on the back. I'm not a prophet but can see some insurance programs eventually aligning themselve's with these kiosks and totally bypassing the retail arena.

The bottom line is that consumers are willing to pay for a professional experience. When this is lumped into their purchase price and either the product and/or the purchase experience doesn't meet their expectations it is difficult to substantiate the value received.
