A new Smart seg, based on a lightly blended round seg/panoptic hybrid shape.

Barry, please explain. What am I missing about the Smart Seg that made it good?
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

First, it did not belong to the big E. Second, the only distortion was in the seg.

I suppose the ulitmate lens would be a completely distortion free progressive.... or at least one where all of the distortion was cut out during edging even going into a 60 eye frame.... And I would name my lens the Parabola! Because the back surface no longer is.
I am waiting for a progressive calcualtion that includes the axial length of the eye, as well as pupil size (in both light and dark light conditions by the way), then we will have something that's good.

    Mineral Freeform

    Dear WFruit,
If you are prepared to wait a bit you can acquire mineral freeform lenses from Europe, we provide it until index 1.9
The process is very time-consuming which makes the cost high but for high minus prescription's it's just lovely when combined with the optional lenticularization.

I am interested in what you can get in glass free form and how it is processed? Can you edge and utilize 8 base framne/lens combos for polarized sun? i could do well with glass polarized 8 base work.
I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Dear Craig,
The glass polarized lenses are doable with freeform in max. diameter 71, base 4, 6 & 8 in colour grey, brown & G15.
You can choose several single vision and progressive designs, occupational lenses can be done when required.
The process is similar to the organic processing, but the tools are different, the software needs to be adjusted and it takes a very long time to finish it which makes it more expensive. For higher minus prescriptions combining 1.9 index with optional lenticularization is great to reduce edge thickness in clear lenses. What PAL-design do you work with ?
Maybe we have a suitable match.
    Best regards,
    jw

Advancing gradient refractive index glass manufacturing techniques would be the way to go IMO. Take the problems of surfacing and polishing out of the equation, just use a 4 or 6 base for everything and have the material do all the work.

I wish glasses WERE like automatic focus cameras! OR, better yet, no NEED for glasses due to some ingenious medical advancements.
