Anybody here have any experiences with Eyemart? Curious...
Only experience i have had is my docs patients coming in with glasses they have gotten from the above mentioned company with the following from their lips..."Will you check my glasses for me? I don't think they were made right"...
A man went to an eye specialist to get his eyes tested and asked, "Doctor, will I be able to read after wearing glasses?"
"Yes, of course," said the doctor, "why not!"
"Oh! How nice it would be," said the patient with joy, "I have been illiterate for so long."
I am assuming you are referring to Wal-mart or eyemart.com. I have worked in a Wal-mart vision center for a little over five years now. I take pride in my job. I take pride that knowing the glasses I sell and dispense are made correctly. Yes from time to time glasses get made incorrectly but that is true of any establishment. I am not a former burger flipper turned optician. I have been studying my for the ABO and will take it next month. I will admit that there are bad people working at Wal-mart vision( not calling them opticians) but I have also had people complain about there private OD's office.
I have been so pleased with the local store that I refer people there. No trouble so far.
"'Mart' and 'Mart'! What is 'Mart'?!"
This is all you need to know about EyeMart.
What are you trying to find out about them? I worked for them last year as a lab tech and overall it was a pretty decent place. I was one of the few people in the lab with experience though. They also pay crap. I love lab work though and the main reason i left was because I wanted my weekends. If you have any questions I might be able to answer I'd be happy to do so.
Just diversify your product and only discuss thigns that eyemart doesn't carry. If a patient mentions eyemart, talk about how you don't normally sell the same product but can match their prices for the product they usually carry. Talk about how it is a different quality progressive, coating, etc. and that your prices are what they are because you carry a higher quality product. Cool part is that you're being honest with the patient and the patient usually can tell. I work within a mile of an eyemasters and beat them every day of the week using that same approach.
They carry the basic Essilor lenses Small Fit, Natural, Ovation....They use Vision Ease for their SFSV poly and Silor for their SFSV cr-39 They also use the LifeRX.
I was a lab manager and General Manager for them for several years. They are a decent company (I no longer work for them Bigger and better things now). Just like any corporate owned optical retail store. Depending on the help you can get and the fact that almost none of the opticians are ABO you get what you pay for (employee wise also)
Eyewear express, Eye-mart express, vision 4 less, and Vision mart are all Dr. Barnes. there biggest catch is the 2 pair special that they run all the time.
Can you beat their prices?..... good luck
What I can tell you is what you can't give them in Cheap glasses you make up with knowledge and the ability to give them more choices. Eye mart does not want to use anything other then what they keep in stock. That is how they are able to give such cheap prices they buy in such huge quantities that they get very good deals on LVP.
Custom ordering lenses that are not "vanilla" takes away from the bargain.
Actually that is better than i expected. I thought they would be using some cheaper brands.
I know Stanton optical offers SolaMax/Image cr-39 for cheap. Those 2 lenses to me are exact opposite in performance.
SolaMax has poor distance, good reading
Image has Good distance, poor reading
IMO
Yea York had a lab....Kinda why I left.
I worked open to close everyday to have the district VP stroll in and close the lab down after starting to turn the store around. it's all good though I went to another retail store for a little while and now I have a great Job working for a wholesale lab with killer benefit.
I used to go to Park City to fix the 6ES edger alloy blocker and the fining machines (those thing were in such bad shape). Michelle was the G/M there when I left.
I do have to say that even with the way things went down I still have good things to say about em though. Almost all the upper Management I met and worked with were great people minus one LOL.

There is a chain of 8 stores based out of Evansville, IN which is Eyemart (Vision Services Corp. d/b/a owned by Dr. Taylor) w/ locations in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky or there is the other Eyemart also known as Eyemart Express owned by Dr. Barnes. I know about 5 years ago Dr. Barnes was going to be purchasing Eyemart (Vision Services Corp.) but Dr. Taylor ended up refusing to sell to Dr. Barnes company because they didn't treat the employees good enough. Eyemart (Vision Services Corp.) ended up changing to mimick Dr. Barnes' Eyemart with the "2 for $79" idea. This pricing and advertisement took Eyemart (Vision Services Corp.) from the red to the black in an unbelievable amount of time.
I almost fell over in my chair with laughter!
Have a stress free day
A.A.S., LDO, ABOC, NCLE
OP - check your PMs.
Himmy4711: I have been a Lab Tech for this company for almost a year and I feel I am very underpaid.... Not even a livable wage. Can you give some advice what to do? (Btw I live in an unlicensed state idk if that matters)
They don't pay well because they have a high turn over. I worked there for a year and a half and it was a great stepping stone on to bigger and better things. It's great for basic knowledge, but as loose-screw said- they sell vanilla which means there is sooooo much more out there. A doctor's office will pay the best. I work for a private retail office managing the lab. Thank you Eyemart for getting me here!
p.s. I'm unlicensed as well
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?
