    Scopus optical

    Hi.

i saw an advert about scopus optical software capable of producing

    a) backside progressive lenses
    b) double sided progressive lenses
    c) 3 corridors: 18/16/15mm
    d) all indexes

any one out there who is familiar with it?

i am curious why a lens manufacturer needs to hav 2 typs of tech: back and double sided

Some manufacturers think one is better than the other. If you see the advertisement again, send me a copy or link.

I am not familiar with that software but,

If someone could produce both types of freeforms they would probably charge more for the "double sided" progressive. While offering a lower price on the backside one.

At least thats what i would do :D

Any way you can scan the page and post it for us? I didn't see it in their on-line version and I'm just not ready to spend $210.00 for a subscription.... and unfortunately neither is my boss.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

...after all, copyright infringement is not such a big deal.

copying an advertisement is not copyright infringement. The advertisers actually encourage spreading ads around any way possible (more business for them).

Oh, well, if that's all you wanted: http://www.scopus.org.il/

Their contact info is actually in their company profile, and not unter the "contact" tab.

I'm going to make a semi-educated guess and say that Landon lens is their distributor in the US, based on the fact that the logo in the O of their name, and the engravings on the Landon progressives is the same.

Landon lens is not the distributor of Scopus products. Scopus lenses have been known to be marketed as LBI, Fairvue, Scopus or Ilenco brands. Scopus also made the old version of the Shoreview Mini.

In the US, Ilenco imports Scopus lenses from Israel, most commonly the Concord progressive.

Ilenco/Scopus has a new freeform software package capable of producing:
    • Backside progressives
    • Double-sided progressives
    • 3 corridors: 15/16/18
    • All indices

The software comes on a disk that is installed on the lab's computer & the lab runs independently. The software will run for one month unlimited, then times out. If the FF model works for the lab, they simply pay a one-time fee for a permanent key & there are no click fees.

Here's the ad sent to us by the manufacturer:

    US Distributor:

    ILenco, Ltd.
    6511 Ironkettle Road
    Charlotte, NC 28270
    • Phone: 704.321.0041
    • Fax: 704.246.3042

FYI: Optivision has no affiliation w/ Ilenco, Scopus, etc. - we just happen to know this info as our LMS is integrated w/ nearly all freeform lens design companies.
