    Executive Bifocal in photogrey?

Does anyone know if an executive bifocal is available in transitions or other photogrey? Any material is fine. The labs we've called aren't able to get it. I have a rather persistent patient who thinks he got it somewhere... I'd like to at least have more evidence if it isn't.

    Thank,s

Only type I've seen is glass, photogrey extra. That may have been a looooong time ago.

There has never been any Transitions Exec. Glass only,PGX. Though I don't currently see any Execs in PGX listed anymore. Maybe Mike can chime in.

Have him bring in his old pair. Wait! I'll bet he doesn't have them anymore, right?

When Photogrey lenses were first released, they were only made in one-piece multifocals; executive and ultex bifocals. That was nearly 30 yrs ago (ouch!). I don't see any photochromics being made in executive bi's today in any material. Actually the only Exec I see at all is the E line by Sola/AO/CZV in clear CR-39.

Production of semi-finished glass executives blanks ended about three years ago in the US. New old stock only.

They are no longer being made by anyone.

Which, of course, means I have a ton of them left over...... clear, and PGX. I even have some glass Occupational Executives.....no, they are not pretty.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

Ah, memories... Rectangular glass executive lenses slowly gringing away on a Weco edger while the Horizon vacuums away the residue of an 80mm polycarbonate stock lens...

I think the Executives offered horrible optics anyway. I stopped selling Execs at all in 2005 (*and if they were requested, I refered the pt. some where else) telling the patient that the remakes were high and the patient satisfaction was low. Testing has shown that people don't really like rotating their eyes to the extreme left and right anyway, its uncomfortable. Friends don't let friends wear executives.

Those were *not* the good ol' days.

The good ol' days were waiting 1 hour for a glass, photochromic Exec lens (ONE!) to be edged (after cribbing!!) on a Shuron "Trimatic" (?) ceramic, bowl-style wheel edger.

    Those were the days....

Ha ha ha! Barry, OB is one of the few places that often make me feel young instead of old.

Yeah, we've been putting exec die-hards in FT45s around here. Great results.

The ledge on that BEAST is so wide you could:

1.) Go on suicide watch and call the "jumper" down.
2.) Use it to drive you car on so you can change the oil.
3.) Use it as a makeshift dance floor at the next sock hop!
4.) Use it as a shuffle alley board!
5.) Place your beer mug on it!

Didn't they use those FT-45s for the Ford Edge commercial where it was driving along the top of the ledge?:bbg:

We used to crib them on the Coburn Edger rough wheel that only yook 50 to 60 seconds to get them nice and round.

The last executive glass lens we ordered came in with an internal note still attatched from the lab - little piece of paper with "Crib down Crib down Crib down" on it. Now I know what that means.

Even though we still have glass exec stock, we do not (and refuse) to sell it anymore. Too many hassles, don't work properly in all but 10 or so of our frames, and we'd be perpetuating a dying (dead, from the sound of it) habit.

We will still sell glass, but executives are a nono

Funny remark on a lens type that was one of the most popular one for many years.

Was available in plastic "AOlite" as of 1965

Don't forget that only when frames were small did you have even a chance of getting both the far and near PDs correct. Usually only could get one or the other. And talk about image jump and thick ledges - try a +3 add Exec in a 58 eye frame.

I'm not dissing it - for the time, executives were a great solution. But just because the 1962 Beetle was a nice car for it's time doesn't make it safer or better than a 2005 Jetta, y'know what I mean? I don't hate a patient for owning one, but seeing as, according to this thread, NOBODY makes glass exec blanks anymore, what's wrong with that I said? Oh, smiley-face to imply that I'm not angry, just asking a question, as emotions are hard to convey :)
