    new lens materials

I've been receiving information on some new mid/high index materials out of asia that have the impact resistance properties of poly but with reasonable to high abbe values. Does anyone have any experience with these materials? We're thinking of importing some to give it a shot.

The materials don't seem to have any branded names, and I think the monomers are coming out of Korea. I've seen both 1.57 and 1.6 indices, with abbe values of 45 and 48. I don't know much about them to be honest. I know of labs in both Korea and Singapore that are using them but haven't heard much else.

Maybe that's the new higher index Trivex.

It's definitely not the new Trivex, although it could be chemically similar.

When I was at VEE, the person at the Three Rivers Optical booth was telling me they would soon be carrying a higher index version of Trivex.

I can't find any information about this material on the PPG website. I wonder if these new unbranded materials are just being labeled generically as a "higher index version of trivex."

Hanmi Swiss in Korea manufacture one which they call HIL.

    http://hslens.co.kr/V_5/e_index.html

They advertise a 1.1mm centre thickness while still passing the drop ball test, ABBE 48, RI 1.57, and specific gravity of 1.14

I just confirmed with State Optical in Tampa, they have Hivex,

It is less "slightly less expensive then trivex" 4 points higher Abbe value with a 1.56 index of refraction and same impact resistance as trivex.

The can get the lenses in Finished as well as semi-finished and are placing a china order for other stock if there is a big demand they will stock up. I spoke to Howard.

...and no I'm not the President, Just a client.

I followed that link... it went to the main page for Hanmi Swiss Optical in Korea. I searched through their lens offerings but there was no mention of a 1.57 with an ABBE of 48, only a 1.56 with an ABBE of 38. Do you have another link?

I could not find a listing for any State Optical in Tampa... google only had a company called "Premium Dynamic Lenses".. Are they one and the same? Premium Dynamic has stock lenses, but no mention of any HIVEX on their website.

A Google search for HIVEX only lead me back to... THIS THREAD! Funny.

Same here... would you trust a company where they don't even know their own products?

This tread goes all over the map. Some what to know the maker of the monomer, others if it is PPG, plus many other issues. I didn't see many questions about how does it perform for the patient. Fairly important I think.

In addition to the monomer there must be knowledge of how to hard coat and AR the material, the amount of flex in material etc.

Trivex is a Trademark of PPG. I too understand they are finally going to supply their parter lens companies with a higher index material. (I don't know if they will call it Trivex or not).

I'm pretty sure I've seen a sample from this company. The lens seemed completely unbreakable and was also very easy to tint.
