    Extremely Large Minimum blank size

    OK,
I have a patient with an extremely large frame purchased online which needs a blank size of 90 mm. I'm assuming lenses in the 70s came in sizes larger than 80 because the frame currently has an rx in it. Ideally I would like a polarized progressive, but I think she would settle for a single vision sun tinted pair.

    Thanks for any input.

In the 70s there was no 80mm blanks.......................70 was the largest.

    These days one source is:

The new Coppertone 80mm SFSV lenses are available in both HEV gray and HEV brown in 4.00, 6.25 and 8.50 bases. The SunRx 80mm SFSV blanks are available in gray in 4.00, 6.25 and 8.50 bases. www.vision-ease.com

For SV it's easy enough to decenter the OC even in a smaller 70mm blank to fit most large frames. If you want a polar PAL you may be SOL - the VE Illumina polar is available in 80mm, but it's MRP is on center - that will make things tricky if the frame is as large as you are insinuating.

What is the ED of the frame? If the ED is 75mm or less ICE-TECH can do the job

The Younger Image NuPolar is a decentered 80mm blank, having an effective diameter of 83 mm.

Otherwise, As said above, ICE-TECH can do a digital decentering to achieve mondo diameter.

All of Shamir's Autograph II FreeForm progressives are also decentered to fit whatever frame they are going into. Single Vision wouldn't be a problem as long as the blank is big enough to fit the lens. The Shamir's can go on any spherical SV blank, so whatever polarized you want can be done (we just did a Auto II 18 on a KBCo Sky Blue).
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.
