There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

At Vision Expo West there was a lot of hype over the new Empower lens by Pixel Optics. Shamir had the deal to do the lenses for this. We were all talking about how long it would be until Essilor picked up Shamir to either squash the Empower, or get their name on it. Should be interesting to see how this works out for the Shamir line-up.

I first read of the connection between Empower, Shamir, Aspex, Transitions, and Panasonic here...

Right. Introducing the AutoLux- bad for consumers, bad for opticians, and bad for the optical industry.

So, who's going to step up to the plate? It might be a really good time for Hoya to introduce their MyStyle PAL to the US market.

Seiko has some great designs. With no detail reps, they aren't as popular but really worth taking a look at (or through!)

Confused Why is Essilor worse than Hoya, Zeiss, Rodenstock and not as good as Younger?

    WHY, WHY, WHY
They all keep prices high and Younger is the only private company, yet they don't even have coatings. It has become apparent that you need to control the entire process as well as possible to get consistent yields that deliver quality products.

I do not use any Varilux products and have never used them; I used to work for them 15 years ago.

I am now using Essilor product by default as they purchased every lab I ever used.

    Craig

PS- I now use 100% no-name free form and coatings with great delight and it is all possible because of Essilor. Thanks Essilor.:):)
