Briot 4000 problem

After spending half my day fixing my edger, I decided it is necessary to have a viable backup capable of cutting small B dimension lenses. I'm considering Fezz' offer for his Weco 440, but it would be 2-4 hours of driving each way to get it. Besides, I have an old Briot 4000 -- but there's a problem. The last time I used it, the lens wouldn't fully rotate on the roughing wheel. Instead, it would turn, back up, turn, and back up -- picture a rap DJ. Additionally, the machine was allowing the lens to float freely from right to left. After attempting to make out the manual (written by someone who writes English as a second language) I tried all the buttons on the machine, thinking I pressed the wrong one while transporting the edger. Is it as simple as my having pressed the wrong button, or is there a part that went bad?

Does anyone have experience with this machine and have any suggestions?

Pick up the Fezz flower planter(s). It'll be worth the trip! Who knows....he might even be convinced to meet you 1/2 way at some tavern. Think of it as a scenic fall trip!

It depends on whether the edger is a 4000 or 4000U. The 4000 has a round knob (one of two) that changes the edger from free-float to control-bevel. In control bevel there is a pin (with a base curve adjustment) that falls into a slot and locks the bevel in place. You can move the bevel left and right with the Knob and or base curve control. There are also switches that turn the rocking motion on or off, one to stop wheel rotation, etc.
Sounds like some of the switches are in the wrong position. The 4000U is only a free float machine.
