New Optiboard member

Hello,

I've recently switched professions- from the medical field to optics. I stumbled across this board while doing some research for my new position (Retail/Dispensing) and have found it an invaluable resource so far! There's such a huge learning curve in the optical field. I do have a degree in Math, however, so some of the pain is lessened i suppose!

At any rate, it's good to be here, and part of such a helpful community. Apologies in advance if I ask any "Newbie" questions as i learn as much as I can!

Hi Tazziedevil! I'm new as well!

I started in the field of Optics fresh out of high school not thinking that I would be still at it 10 years later. I started in the lab and then worked my way out to the floor, all the while being mentored by some pretty great Opticians and Lab Managers along the way. Recently I've come back to the field after a cross country move from rural WI and brief break from the biz only to find I feel like a real hayseed compared to some of the other Opticians I work with here in the city. I'm learning quickly, thankfully because of my coworker's knowledge as well as from the information I glean from this site.

I was a lurker for quite a while on Optiboard before I decided it would behoove me to join so I could partake of the discussions and debates held here. I wasn't sure that I would have anything to add but I reasoned that at least I could ask and learn!

I'm sure at some point I will ruffle a few feathers but I don't get knocked out of a fight easily; a few years in a professional kitchen have conditioned me to hold my ground and not be easily perturbed. Looking forward to build professional relationships with everybody, green or seasoned! :)

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome!

It is indeed springtime down under, although the weather in Tasmania lately has been horrible- snow and sleet. Glad I work indoors :)

I'm off to scour the boards to learn something new.

I am somewhat new as well. I have generally been a "lurker" for learning new information, however, I have started to post a few things here and there recently. I've been in the optical field for 7 years, have been CPO certified for 3 years and I love it! :bbg:

Phaco: Don't want to leave you out......Welcome......Don't see many of "your kind" here, spread the word, we could use more MD's input in what is a very challenging time ahead of the optical universe. Hopefully we can find ways of working together.
