If you go hot plates look into induction, I went to a friends house a few weeks ago and he had a portable induction hot plate, he had a pot of water on it for 5 to 10 seconds and the thing was boiling already it also had temerature controls and he said that it held the temperature very accurately and was energy efficient. The only draw is you have to use metal cook ware which would work fine with the current tinting pots.

The speed at which you can bring them up to temp would aloow you to keep the unit off untill needed allowing you to save on energy costs and will degrade your tints less since they would not be at high temps for very long. The induction cooktops also keep a temperature better than any rheostat apparently so you would be tinting at optimal temperatures further prolonging the life of the tint. I really don't know why we aren't using this technology in tinting.

I would guess that not many of us are not doing any kind of tinting to make the investment in this technology worth it!

Keep in mind that induction cook tops require specific cookware that works with induction cooking.

Back to the topic at hand...Johns has one: http://www.optiboard.com/forums/show...l=1#post353059

Go buy two hotpots...you know, the little electric ones you boil hot water in...except don't let them boil. add your dye and water and voila. They're cheap, one quart, no smell, no HTF, and you can only heat up the color you want.

    You'll thank me later.
