    Interesting news about presbyopia...

Apparently, not satisfied with the limited descriptive value of the term "presbyopia," the American Society Cataract and Refractive Surgery has released a statement stating it would like to replace the term with the phrase "Age-Related Focus Dysfunction"

ARFD? Does that diagnosis come with a free roll of toilet paper, because they're definitely going to S__T themselves. I can fit them with an ETD (Eyewear Therapy Device).

A change in nomenclature might be in order. A jail is now known as a Correctional Institution.

I always felt that patients thought that they had developed a Religious infliction, when informed that they have presbyopia.

I think someone in the office felt that they needed something to rhyme with ARMD, or ADD.

Instead of saying problem, it's an opportunity, instead of saying from now on, its going forward, instead of learning disabled, its exceptional. The garbage man is a sanitation engineer and the guy at the service station is a petroleum specialist. I really don't know what people are talking about anymore. When someone says I did an exceptional job, how should I take it?

ASCRS feels the public does not understand how the aging of the lens affects vision nor are they aware of the surgical or intraocular lens options for managing the condition.

    Yeah, sort of...

Thinking back to my college days (mumble years ago), Occam's Razor was explained simply that when there are multiple explanations for a given event, the simplest explanation is often the correct one.

But 'Keep it Simple, Stupid' is an excellent way to approach it as well.

Of course, Murphy and his various accolytes will always have input as well...
