    Confused Hilco Hinge Doctor

Does any one have a Hilco Hinge Doctor in use ?

I recently ordered a Hilco Hinge Doctor, and I am trying to figure out exactly how to properly use it. I figured out to mount the bench block with the shaft and two pins to the counter top. Then you put the end of the spring hinge onto one of the pins and pull to open the spring. That is where I get stuck, it came with a Forceps like clamp, but I don't know how to use it to keep the spring open to insert the hinge screw.

For now I just use the end of a screw to prop it open until I can get the hinge screw in, but I am sure that is not how you are supposed to use it.

    Thanks for your help !

For the forceps (if this is the HILCO tool I have and am thinking of) you use the pointed side on the inside of the spring hinge, and move the metal retaining clip forwards to hold it closed. The tricky part was figuring out that the temple end goes on the INSIDE of the tool, so it sometimes interferes with where the forceps are joined.
