Were all the labs equal in quality, price, service etc.?
Usually you have good, better and best labs.

But you don't give the work based on merit.

You punish the best who gave the most blood, sweat and tears to be The Best for You.
Then to add insult to injury you reward the mediocre by giving them the same amount of work they didn't deserve.

Why should any lab strive to improve ... you spread the orders to the good and lousy equally.

And you have the guts to talk about "fairness"... words fail me.

Nickoly, Could you please restate your issue. Are you complaining about independant labs, or are you saying that Essilor is actually good for buying up everything? Or something else. I got lost following this threat.

I would still prefer to reward the most competent ones and the ones which put the most effort.

I don't believe all 6 labs were mirrored images.

Research and Development also gets a big plus mark.
Two companies may produce the exact same products but the one developing the tomorrow's products will get my business.

There are even now optical supply companies that have become parts of the empire (DAC Vision and Optisource). All you can do to fight, is to purchase same type of products and supplies from the independent ones.

I support my family and employees, who cares who owns the lab today! It will change anyway and you are dreaming if you really think you work for an independent!

Once you put in Varilux; you forfeit the right to sell the business with the distribution of Varilux. So you are already owned by E; you just didn't realize it yet.

Look at the vendors who supply your independent lab and you could not get equipment, supplies or lenses if your company also avoided the big E, Z, K, R,S and the rest.

The independent song is old and tired! My clients and kids could care less who I get lenses from, as long as they perform.

Craig, you make some very good points...and I agree with your comment about the independent song is old and tired....I don't think it has ever made a difference in the Carolinas (I can't speak for other areas). I would like to respond about the "dreaming" comment. I have worked on both sides....ELOA and a family owned lab (Luzerne) and and I can tell you, there is a big difference and I am not dreaming. Being able to offer the same, equivalent, or better lenses for less without the gimmicks, contracts and games is something I was unable to do until 2004 when I made a change. The change I made in 2004 to go to work for a non E owned lab was the best move I have made in my 26 years in the wholesale lab business. Its so nice to be able to offer the best products to fill a need for the ECP as opposed to talking about the products that management wants to promote. I do agree with you, however, that just because my lab isn't owned by one of the large corporations is not going to help me keep or gain new clients. Being able to positively affect the ECP's bottom line, level of quality, level of service, or offering better performing lenses does make a difference. We are in somewhat the same boat as it also doesn't doesn't matter to me which lens an ECP buys from my lab....my family and creditors could care less as well. So on that we can agree...cheers
