    Z87 question

I should absolutely know this, but I was going through some boxes of old frames, and found some On Guard Safety frames. Thing is they are the Z87, not Z87-2.

Now that we have the Z87-2 specifications and can use 2.0 mm poly/trivex, can you still use the old Z87 frames as long as they are 3.0 in all materials, or are all the old Z87 frames obsolete and not usable?

We have an rack for discounted frames (d/c'd stuff and poor sellers) for the BOGO and what not just because they take up space, and was considering putting those old Z87 up there just to get rid of them.

If i'm not mistaken it doesn't matter what optical material you use to fill a Z87 safety frame. I remember doing Z87-1 in glass. I would stick to the Z87-1 standard, 3.0mm minimum thickness.

I've never figured out how string mounts came to be Z87 approved, especially with a mandated concern about lens dislodgement. Another one of those things that makes me scratch my head.

Next thing you know, we will see drill mounts as acceptable. *rolls eyes*

    I think Wolverine has Z87-2 3pc. frames.

Do some research to find out whether or not the On Guard frames have been recertified for Z87-2. Most of the safety frame manufacturers I deal with have done that.

yes we used to fill Glass all the time in safety.
My question is are all the original z87 obsolete? can we even dispense them given the new z87-2? I was planning on just using the old 3.0 on ALL materials, but wasn't sure if the z87-2 had rendered the original z87 frames obsolete entirely.

btw aurelius, OnGuard also has a 3 piece mount.

IIRC one must dispense safety specs to the specification stamped on the frame.

It figures, Aarlan. I still won't make lenses in them. String mounts either. Stupid is as stupid does.

From Hilco, " Most of the A-2 & OnGuard Collections have already been tested to the NEW ANSI Z87.2-2010 Standard. This is an on-going project with our Engineering Testing Staff. Including is the testing are the 3 pc. mount styles. Once the testing is completed, we will make a formal announcement..."

Btw esteemed gentlemen (and women?) of the optiboard, don't prejudge the properties of 3 pc or string mount safety eyewer until you have seen the impact test results...very surprising but demonstrable and repeatable.

    Have a nice day.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
