What is a good name for a new Practice?

I have an OD friend openning a new practice soon, and he is looking for some ideas for a cool and catchy practice name. OK if the name is used in your area? Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Sharpstick

Whatever the name is, make sure people can recognize what the product is.

I mean you can call it Eye See You, but will people know that it is an optical practice? Probably not. People are always concerned about the creativity, not the practicality. In many cases, call it "Your Vision Centre" is a lot more beneficial.

It could be catchy but it should reflect the practice identity. What demographics, what type of specialty, etc.? There's more to it than just the name, it should be a reflection of the brand.

When our office moved a couple years ago, we changed the name of the practice. Before it all took effect, we let our patients vote on names they would have liked us to use. We had three choices (I can't remember the other two by now!), and had ballots to fill out in the waiting room. Come up with a few, then get some input from colleagues and patients.

Charlotte's Optical "We kill you with kindness" tee hee

Other than that, I like the idea of having customers vote. Maybe do a mailer (great way to advertise too) for the local area.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

Customers voting sounds rather dangerous. Remember that whole Space station COLBERT episode that NASA went through?

Free-Foam Optics. Make sure every sale comes with a free six-pack of their favorite suds.

And.... give 'em lots of free styro-FOAM with their new Younger Image lenses. Tell them they're free-foam lenses.

How about OFF-LINE Optical? It could start a new trend. "not available on line"

Hmmm, sorry, I have to admit I don't know what you're talking about. I think I get the picture, though. I don't think we let the patients submit their own suggestions, though. It was three names that somebody (not sure who, it started right before I was hired) came up with, and all three were good names.

    +1

I'm way behind in owning my own optical (if I still decide to), but it doesn't help to plan...A LOT. That was something that came up while thinking. When thinking of a name sure you want it catchy and memorable, but be sure that if a stranger hears about it, they have somewhat of an idea as to what you sell.

I chuckled at this one. As much as I think it's funny, I think that would actually bring more attention to online buying. Not that no one knows about it already. So I guess that name is okay then lol.

My personal favorite is from years ago watching an episode of The Simpsons, where Homer goes to get LASIK at a place called "Eyecarumba". I still think its an awesome name!

@sharpstick777: On the serious side.....the best and most memorable practice names reflect the building, neighbourhood or the geography of the area it is located in. The impact is not only professional, but grounding.

I have seen practices that try to "name" themselves, but fail, because they then reflect a non-professional trendy name. I would suggest that your friend strongly consider using his/her own name incorporated into the practice name, with the flexiblility to "group or associate" at a later date. This would increase loyalty, personalize the practice, and encourage retention. After all, loyalty to the individual is harder to sever, than loyalty to an entity.
