Idea What edger would you recommend for my next purchase???

I should have have got opinions before I purchased a Briot. I'm looking at Santinelli's Lex with adding an ice blocker and drill. I like how the Lex can do wrap eyewear and you can be edging while it is drilling. This time I want any and all advice in purchasing my next edger.

    Jeff

    Thanks in advance :)

I think your best bets would be Santinelli or National Optronics.

Wait for the new ME-1200 from Santinelli or get a great deal on an ME-1000 they are fazing out. I am going to sell my ME-1000 and getting a new one; mine is in perfect condition and was totally re-done loast year by Santinelli.
It will be a great deal for the price!

Our ME-1000 from Santinelli has been great. I'm looking forward to taking a look at their ME-1200 :)

Also, Santinelli's service and tech support have been top notch. When we first installed the machine about three years ago, they set the machine up and spent a full day training the staff on all of it's functions and answering every question we could come up with.

We also have a Santinelli SE-9090 that we love.

We do use 2 NO 7E's and they work great, I just have a personal bias against dry cut edgers.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

We're looking at the Santinelli edgers right now. I like the fact that I can make my own Chemistrie clips with their newest edger. That will save a lot on overhead on the cost to make the clips.

I saw yesterday where Optronics now has software updates for the 7E to do Chemistrie clips.

A lot depends on what kind of edging you are doing. The Optronics HLP is a great value but does not have optical tracing (allowing you to get drill holes and trace demo lenses using the camera). If you are doing a lot of drilling Optical tracing could be a great help. The Santinelli LEX-1000 has great sofware for adjusting the bevel but the tracer can't do both sides of an 8 base wrap like the Optronics HLP or Gerber Mr. Blue can. The Gerber Mr. Blue has a lot of features, but it lacks the ability to cut a shelf on the back, and its slow if you use the mill. So if you have only one edger and need high speed I would recommend the Optronics. If you have edgers that can cut bread and butter jobs already but are looking for just specialty work I would recommend the Mr. Blue. If wraps are not something you do, the Santinelli would be a good choice. For flexibility I would give the Gerber the edge, for value and speed I would give the Optronics the edge, if you change shapes a lot, I would go with the Santinelli (you can drag and drop shapes with your finger).

Unless you are doing the new Chemistrie magnetic clip-ons, in that case in edger drilling could be a huge time saver (assuming you have excess edging capicity elsewear).

We do over 60% drill mounts and would not consider a machine that drills outside the chamber. We have had our ME-1000 for 5 years and the reason we are holding off on upgrading to the ME-1200 is simply the one we own is too good! I just met with Santinelli in Vegas and the new machine is great, but we would only gain the high curve option on the new edger and that results in me sending out about 10-20 jobs per month that we cannot edge properly.
I just looked at all the new edgers and the only one for me is the Santinelli products; they are set up for high quality work on more combinations than any other machines.
If you are getting a drill, the ME-1200 is far superior to the LEX with the seperate drill function. They are not the same and the ME-1200 has all the features you will appreciate if you do many drills. I have met with a few labs that use the ME-1000 for specialty work and none are ready for a new brand, but they are interested in the ME-1200.

I also saw a laser tracer that is very cool by Schneider and they have a new 5 axis lab machine that looks nice. It is for a production facility and will give the MEI edgers a run for the money. The Helix by Optronics is a good start, but misses the mark and MEI has nothing to worry about.

Once you use an edger with all the features you will be amazed you could ever live with anything else.

    Craig
