Wink G20 Summit in Toronto, who's affected by the fortress, downtown?

With the tight security in the big T.O. I was wondering if any of our Canuck ECP's are struggling to carry on their practice with the fence and all the security.

News stories have suggested that some businesses have closed, some people are away on vacation, or business has slowed way down. Anybody want to share?

The LHINs are concerned that the protesting may block the main hospital in Toronto and Sick Kids. Which can cause an issue all across Ontario. Let's hope not.

I was supposed to go to a meeting tomorrow in Toronto, but it got cancelled because of it. I am not disappointed.

What makes me wonder though is it is costing our government $1.1 billion for security for this. However, in recent years, many of the other nations did it for $30 to $40 million. Makes you question where the cash is going.

Redhot Jumper Just pretend you are in Quebec.....................................

Tomorrow is the Quebec national holiday and you get fined $5,000 if you work and dont close the business, so we are making it a long weekend and close also on Friday.

Why don't you pretend to be in Quebec and do the same. :bbg:

I read somewhere that for the next Summit G21 all of the leaders should rent a cruise ship and sail out into the ocean somewhere to hold their meeting. One submarine a couple of destroyers and some air coverage (supplied by each country) would provide the security. They could roam around and not have to worry about the protestors at all. And I am sure it would cost enormously less than what they are paying now.

In total about a half a dozen storefronts had their windows smashed. A few police vehicles were torched. Overall the security forces contained the violence to a small area.

Today they are arresting people within the crowds of protestors, and ramping up the security. I hope that none of our ECPs had shops in that area, that was vandalized yesterday. Not a lot of local people were arrested.

I think it is disgusting what some of the protestors are doing. The members of the Black Bloc are nothing more than people trying to commit violence hiding behind a mask.

I also think it hurts the message of those who are doing the protesting through proper means.

The French President announced that when they hold the summit next year, it will cost 10 times less than this one.

Interesting that Harper is pushing for everyone to cut their deficits at this summit where he is spending on god knows what. I am just waiting until we find out that he stole more than Chrietien did through the Sponsorship Scandal.
