    Wave Calibrating pupilometer

    Hey guys,
its been a while since I've been around. Howdy!!. I am getting ready to pack up a pupilometer to send it to Hilco for calibration. Does anyone have a clue as to how much they charge (they won't tell me over the phone) and/or is there an option #2 to sending it to Hilco?
Catch me before I call to Fed Ex!!

    Check with this place:

    http://www.rhburton.com/index.php

They bought up what was once RH Burton. They may be able to help!

*I just called, they do still refurb and clean lensometers!

Option number 2 is always to do it yourself.

I'm guessing that Hilco won't quote you over the phone because they charge depending on how much work they actually have to do and how long it takes them. I would request that they at least quote you a price once they've looked over the lensometer and BEFORE they actually do any work on it.

I've had good experience with RH Burton, though that was years ago. Good to know that they are still (sort of) around.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

Ok, yeah, now that I've learned how to read....

But the answer is still, yes, I do know how to do it. Or at least a way to do it. I don't know if its the best way or not....

First, are you sure it needs to be calibrated?

Did everyone miss it or just ignore the question or does it even matter? Roset is speaking of a PUPILOMETER. Not a Lensometer.

I wondered how long this would go before someone realized roset was asking about a pupilometer. To keep from starting my own thread. . . I've got an old Hoya pupilometer that I'm pretty sure needs calibrating, but I can't find any contact information on whom to ask for help. My office stopped using their labs quite a while before I ever started working here, and we've moved locations almost 2 1/2 years ago, so there's no telling where any documents are with Hoya's info. Probably in storage where I'll never see it. Any suggestions??
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

    It"s not that I am cheap . . . I am thrifty.

First off the gold standard for measuring interpupillary distance has always been a PD rule and a muscle light. PD rules never need calibration unless you lose them in the salt pan or use them to stir real hot coffee. If you do insist on using some sort of gadget to measure PD's and want to save a few rupees just take some readings from a known source and tape the correction factor to the device with masking tape.

Correction that used to be the gold standard, now its pupilometers with digital centration devices on the horizon.

If you suspect false readings from your pupillometer be sure to check the metal frame of the headrest.

Ours gave false readings constantly I found out that the headrest was crooked, bend it back and things were back to normal again.

I once talked to our supplier about calibrating pupillometers but they told me just to get a new one because calibration wasn't possible. Turds.

I prefer the ruler above all. It's foolproof unless I'm hung over. :p
