I have a patient who needs new glasses. She has been wearing a Welsh 4 Drop lens, which is no longer available.
Does anyone have suggestions for a good substitution?

Bristolite 5 Drop. SV, RD, ft25 and ft28.
If I remember correctly the Essilor Omega is welsh 4 drop design.
We can't get the Essilor Omega in the states.

The five drop is the thinnest and flattest, but the standard aspheric will have better off axis vision, and comes with an extra 2D of base curve for Rxs over 14D.
Another option is-

but they are not aspheric. Expect plenty of unwanted cylinder. The add powers go up to +20.00 though, handy for low vision.

Robert, thanks for the great info. I practiced in Milwaukee and Tosa a few decades ago; when I worked with Cesarz and Nassif we dealt mainly with Herslof, (you know how that goes). I'm now with the VA in southern IN, but I am in this thread on behalf of a buddy in San Diego who was looking for the 4 drop for a pediatric +10ish patient. Thanks again!
The "Omega" was sold in the states as the "Super Modular" - a kind of blended lenticular, not a full-field like the Welsh.
While I've been working on my design, I ran across the patent filing for the Welsh 4 drop, here's a link if you are interested: http://www.google.com/patents/US4185897
A Sola product, before Essilor took over production or the old stock, I think.
Hello! I'm sure we've seen the same clients! Cesarz has retired of course, and Nassif still performs surgery. Tosa is still going strong, with many family and locally owned businesses. The suburbs are mile after mile of franchises and strip malls, as Milwaukee continues to struggle across the board.
I've spent some time in Brown county- check out the state park and national forest if you're nearby.
Tell your buddy not to hesitate to contact Optiboard if there are any additional questions or concerns.
Best regards,

I don't think that the Super Modular changed hands, but I could be wrong... maybe Steve or one of the other Sola old-timers could recall.
My grey matter is not what it was, but the super mod was always essilor.
You're both right. I just talked to the person who made the Super Modulars for me and he confirmed it is/was an Essilor product, but said I might have been thinking of Silor, which I confused with Sola. Sorry for the confusion- maybe I need to see my bartender tonight and have my grey matter tweaked.

I know it was just a typo, but the thought of "blender lenticular" has taken me to a new level of consciousness...
Waistin' away...
Years ago, we actually offered a version of the Welsh 4-Drop design, not Silor's Super Modular.Super Modular... A Sola product, before Essilor took over production or the old stock, I think.
