I personally find Vegas somewhat distracting. All that casino noise, scantily clad women, and free drinks in all hotels just doesn't seem right when I am trying to work. As for raiding the big boy parties, I heard about these, but have no way of finding them.

    Gambling?? On what opticians make???

So, those were your wife's funds I saw you at the tables with last year??

Oh, and you'd have more funds if you wern't offering poor models a thread and needle to stitch up their strategically placed "rips" in their outfits.

I would love to go to the Vegas show someday. And the last time I was there (just a couple months ago), one of our nights in the Luxor was about $39. Cool beans.

Oklahoma City has this fancy-schmancy convention center that was built recently, with the hopes of getting the NBA team. Well, it worked, and I know they're looking for major shows to bring hordes of people here and spend money downtown. We do have a world airport. . .

And now that Seattle has no NBA team....but does have a world class convention/trade center, international airport, lots of great Hotels and restaurants.....they should move it here.

Besides...who doesn't lova a ferry ride with views of white-capped mountains and the chance to see on Orca?

Back to Johns suggestion of Davenport........

Yeah, it would be inexpensive to spend a few days there, but how many attend these meetings as just day trips? Lots of conference attendees are day trippers and don't have the time or funds for more than one day.

How many people live within the New York metro area that can attend even just for a day or afternoon?

How many people live within a day's drive of Davenport?

Vegas is doable as a day trip from California.

I would prefer to do two days in New York, but hotels are too costly, so I do a day trip yearly with my staff and enjoy a late afternoon/early evening in NYC before going home.

As far as I am concerned, *Expos*, have outlived their usefulness. The costs and hassles involved to go do not outweigh the *benefit* of going! Lets all face it and be honest with one another (ok, a first, but let's try), the *DEALS* that are offered there are bogus at best, and almost insulting to real buyers. I can make better deals sipping a robust cabernet on a friday afternoon, blindfolded, with my wallet hijacked by Brother Johns and Brother Harry! There is nothing so earth shattering that you must be there. Everything that is *released* there is available to almost any optical with a financial pulse, and even to some that are on life support!!!!

Oh wait, I know what you are screaming..................."But Fezz, what about all of the fantastic CE that is available?".

Uh.............Ok........................................... ..Most of us can get our *CE's* in about 16 1/2 minutes from various web sources for free. So, explain to the masses why it is so important to go to an Expo to get your CE's? Please do not respond if some, or most, of your yearly wages are earned giving these CE courses. Come on, lets see the reasons. Come on! Let's hear it!

Oh, I get it! Most of you clowns who go to these *Expos* really do not hold any real buying power, are glorified "Office Managers", who do not have a clue as to how a business should be run. But, let's be honest again (I know, hard, right?), most of the folks who go to theses *Expos* could really care less about this damn business anyway and are just going because somebody else is paying their way, somebody else is trying to run a business, and somebody else got hoodwinked into bringing their *DEVOTED* staff. Are you one of the *Devoted* staff?

How many of you only get excited to go to one of these *Expos* just to get away? You know, catch a good show or two, dine at a fancy-schmantzy greasy spoon, and get some shopping in? Come on.......admit it. Be honest with yourself. Be honest with us.

Expos are an over-hyped, way expensive, non-business friendly, sham, that are slowly dying and gasping for life. It has become too expensive to exhibit, too financially draining to attend, and too passe!

Come on...........admit it. Expos as YOU use to know them are dead.

It is time for the *Un-Expo* to shine!!!!!

Jacqui, Jacqui, Jacqui...........................................life is way too short to have this as one of your goals!

The Expos sort of remind me of Prom Night!

They are surrounded by all sorts of tense and excited anticipation, you spend a whole pile of dough going to one, many times you are there with someone who was not your *first* choice, when you get there you are sort of put off and disappointed, you spend most of the time trying to capture and create the *Moment* that you had envisioned, most of the clammy handshakes and awkward hugs and smiles make you uneasy at best, the non-stop groping of others trying to get you to succumb to their advances make you feel like vomiting, you spin and recoil, the reality slowly sets in, time ticks away as you slowly realize that this wasn't all that you had envisioned! You feel the hot wave of disappointment overcome you! Somehow, you didn't *CONNECT* with those that you truly wanted to, you didn't have all of the fun and good times that you were led to believe that you were going to have, you end up leaving all alone, feeling used, cheap, and unfullfilled. You spend the next few weeks wondering why (and secretly wishing that you hadn't) gone in the first place. You start to hear whispers and giggles that you were *THAT ONE* who went to Expo, and that you were the one who filled your BigBoy Handbag with stale M&M's, laboratory engraved PD sticks, Progressive lens Wow-em-O-Ramas, multiple business cards of a whole host of potential suitors, and glitzy handouts! You were the *ONE*, that they all talked about!

You come to grips with the fact that you were used and toyed with. You cry, lament, and swear that you will never fall for something like that again!

Expo wasn't all that it was claimed to be!

Fexx.............you could not have said it any better.

As a 16x times exhibitor, I cut it out a few years back, set up a website and take good care of it. Furthermore I get double the professional visitors every day of the year, I used to get during a whole Expo weekend which cost me at least $ 10,000.

I also reach everyone that wants to look around around my sites the world over in seconds.

MDs have an educational service in Naples FL, at the Beach Hotel that functions 12 month a year and they can spend a week with their familily there and can attend the classes during 5 mornings and book it all of business expenses...................no commercial exhibition.

I think it would be nice if the fall show would move every 5 years. Cities like Phoenix, Denver, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Dallas, and San Diego are all large enough markets to accommodate this type of event and the change in location would give ECP's just one more reason to go.

For vacations, I like to go someplace different every time. A timeshare would be torture. An expo is not a vacation, but rather work. I like going to a place that is familiar in terms of lodging, eating, and just plain getting around.

    That's just me...

I like Vegas just for the fun of watching my wife scold and yell at the card slap jockey's that stand out on the street around Harrah's handing out cards of their, err, umm,... "special offers"..:bbg:

NY & Las Vegas may not be the least expensive cities, but we hear time & again from attendees and exhibitors (in focus groups, panels, one on one meetings, ECP & exhibitor boards and post show surveys) that these are their preferred US cities for many reasons. For NY, over 7000 attendees come from the tri-state area of NY, NJ & PA, another 3000 from the other East coast states and 2000+ internationally. For Vegas, 4500+ come from the Pacific states, another 1700+ from Mountain states and around 1500 people come internationally.

It's always interesting to read comments about Vision Expo. I love being a member of OptiBoard because it's just as important to read comments from people that don't attend and some of their concerns.

This means that you are listening carefully to the people that attend but you are ignoring the people that don't attend.

The panels are set up for people that do NOT attend Vision Expo. We host them a few times a year with a few scheduled over the next 2 weeks. As we said, it's very important to hear from people that don't attend as well.

Sorry a little late on this one. But ive got a few questions on the subject.

If there was a regional show near you, how many vendors would it have to have to make it worth it for you to go and how far would you travel for it? i.e. if there were shows in Chicago, Denver, Atlanta, Miami, LA etc. Would you take the day off work to go?

As a vendor, I would prefer smaller more affordable regional shows.
