OD's RX Reciprocity from US to Canada...

A patient was told by a Canadian optical shop (small chain) that his current rx from my OD was not valid in Canada (Ontario).

Is this true or is it a doc drumming up business?

(Yes I'm following Great Glasses fiasco but this was not where he went.)

This is completely untrue. A valid Rx from a licenced Optometrist in another country is valid. I have filled many Rx's over the years that originated from Europe, Australia, Asia etc...

Do you sense money grab anyone???

Part of the new BC regulations allows for any Rx from anywhere to be filled in BC...apparently this was not the case before. Again...another great way to promote internet vendoring of glasses...just order through BC and the Rx will NEVER expire, and in fact no proof of an actual Rx will be needed...just type in the numbers! Yeah!!

I've seen opticians refuse to fill even out of province Rx's. That was before the new rules in BC thought!

    Other possible rejection reasons:
    unsigned
    unreadable scribble
    no contact info(phone#)/refractionist name
    expired
limitation of power capable of being filled(some retail dispensaries will only fill Rx's up to power XX.XX.
