Sounds like another "business model" that includes theft of professional services in it's process to make more $$...

    copied from their FAQ section

"""Technically, PD is not a required measurement, so it is often not included in prescriptions. However, it is very helpful for us to have when making your glasses to ensure that they fit you perfectly."""

I guess they assume everyone is a 62!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!

    Good Luck to Warby Barby.

I saw the Warby Parker website yesterday, and I thought that's such a cool idea giving a pair of glasses away for each one bought, just like Toms Shoes. And then I thought why can't we do that at our own opticals? And use that same approach.

It is a good idea, but do you think consumers will be happy with paying a good price for a pair of glasses, only to know that you are donating a free pair? Some will love it, some will rather have you reduce your prices and give nothing away.

Maybe Warby Parker could save a little money by sending their glasses wrapped in old newspaper or leaves (just not poison ivy, though, Warby Parker!). They could then tell their customers to go get a free eyeglasses case and cleaning cloth when they go for their free adjustment.

This business model is on the uprise, new company- http://spexclub.com/ and a few others are built on the same concept. Warby Parker is a fairly new company, and using Social Media to really grow, I cannot tell you how many Twitter Posts mention 'Can't wait for my new Warby Parker, Just Got new Warby Parker. In the space of a few years, Warby Parker on Alexa is now ranked in the Us 13, 610 and Worldwide at 62,970. This means they are one of the top sites!

Www.classicspecs.com may be the model that the proffessionals here can learn from. They mainly serve local customer base in Brooklyn. Unlike pure online outfit like Zenni and Firmoo, classic Specs' model is more suitable for people if we want our biz also to go online.

Here is a cut and paste from the Warby Parker website.

In some cases, your eye doctor will not include your PD in your prescription. If you don’t know your PD, you can return to your eye doctor to have it measured. While it only takes a moment, it may be worth calling ahead of time to ensure that your eye doctor is willing to measure it for free or a nominal fee. You can also try to walk into an optical shop and ask for a PD measurement. In the past, most optical shops provided PD measurements for free, but now we're finding that many are no longer doing so in a vain attempt to maintain control of the market and prevent people from buying online.

Just to add in again- Toms Shoes just launched their Buy One Give One, in fact the news was so big, you couldn't get on their site.
The Give Back business model is growing /theopticalvisionsite.com/marketing-retail-strategies/eyecare-trends-online-companies-one-for-one-business-model/ and in France, Jimmy Fairly another Buy One Give One just raised $$ (opticalvisionresources.com/jimmy-fairly-french-buy-one-give-one-raises-200-k-euros).
I think you will see more of 'Purpose Driven Companies' ie Eyes of Faith, 141, Modo's ECO growing. The consumer wants to support companies that give back.
