    Angry beware of strange emails

another wonderful virus got an email yesterday from john ????? everybody knows a john don't they when i read it it attached itself to my address book strange.
the virus checker never picked anything up so i thought nothing of it untill i booted up this morning to a boot sector error.
glad i learned to keep my o.s on a seperate drive to every thing else but still had to reinstall the o.s to get everything working again.

so be warned don't open any emails if you arn't sure where they came from.
this email did not have any attatchment so i guess it had the virus contained in the file.:hammer:

    Optispares,
You wouldn't happen to know if it's that new one that just started going around would you? It's called W32.Maldal.l@mm. In the last two days it's infection rate has been really high. :(

    Why Cann't..

I wonder Why The ISPs do not provide
1> A Powerfull Virus detecting Method to catch the Viruses on the servers themselves.
2> Validating Facility which will allow the reciever to select the incoming mail Ids before allowing them to get inside for the first time ?
If that can be done, I think mail spreading viruses will just no longer exist.

Many isp's in the UK run virus programs on their mail servers or blocking software to prevent another colapse like the "love bug" but again they are only as good as the last update...or the person covering the blocking...

    Right On The Money!
Sandeep.... Unfortunately there is no solve all code to prevent a virus before it is actually written. The good people at symantec and mcaffee scramble to provide us pc user's with updates and alerts. And they do a great job of it ,if i may add.

    Exclamation Sandeep

Another problem with the newer brand of viruses are that they do not have the same title so blocking at isp's is no go at all..
Biggest problem is microsoft software :hammer: run linux and there is next to no virus's to worry about, you also have less of a problem with windozz mail programs if you use one's other than microsoft....

Ian,the free one's do a great job of protecting your pc if you have nothing to begin with. But they tend to lack in the update area. The best way to defend yourself is to purchase a anti virus program. That way you will get frequent and automatic updates in most cases. And from time to time they will also upgrade the virus program engine.

    Idea Forgot.

    Also,
Nothing work's better hand in hand with a anti virus program than a firewall.

Could not agree more, and for thoes who do not run a firewall Try this free one Its free to all personal users, is simple to use, all it does is ask you if you want a program to access the net all you do is tell it yes or no.. No problem having to set ports etc just install and play...
Run it my self with no trouble at all...:D :D

Huh......? Go figure.Pc-cillin is one of the most widely used av programs out there. Never used it myself but have heard good reviews from other people. But then again no AV program is 100%. I wonder how many more pc's were infected? Look on the bright side........nothing like running on a clean install.:D
