    Labs that finish stock lenses

Any suggestions on labs that edge stock lenses and has good prices along with private label AR that is hydro/oleo?

We have been using Nassau atlanta, but they are shutting down their edging department. I would like AR that is similar in quality to Synergy or Pentax Surpass ECP. I want to avoid having to pay for brand names like Alize, etc.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Was it a lab or stock house?

It was a stock house but they had one guy doing edging with an Optronix 4E (I believe). I got their stock pricing plus an edging charge.

I know most labs will edge stock lenses, including us. If you want to PM me your address, I'd be happy to send a price list out to you. *Edit: Or, you know, I can just click on your link and see your web-site, complete with your address.... However, I'd still like a PM just to confirm that you do want a pricelist, since most practices I know don't tend to like unsolicited mail.*

Honestly, I'm afraid that you're going to find that most places will be higher than what you're used to since the lab has to first buy the lenses, rather than the lens already being in the "stock house." We do also have our own in-house A/R available both in just hydrophobic as well as oleophobic, but we don't have our own "stock finished" brand the way Nassau does.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

Why not use the lab that does your surfacing?? Almost any lab can do this, including your local home town INDEPENDENT lab. I'll PM you a sample of our prices so that you can get an idea of what you can expect to pay.

One of the problems that I experienced when I was doing this is that the lab would very often tell me that the job could not be done with a stock lens and that they needed to surface it. I know very well all the issues of blank size, decentration, edge thickness etc but it seemed to happen about 30% of the time. After I bought my own edger this percentage went down to 5-10%.

I'm not surprised by that at all. Once you get good at edging and the use of finished stock lenses(when you have frame or a trace in hand) stock is the way to go. Way back when I was an itty-bitty Optician I had a lab that was obviously pulling stock lenses out of the envelopes, markin them up like they'd been surfaced(and A/R coated of course) to look like surfaced lenses and billed like surfaced lenses! When you get those 75 blanks in with no decentration and tons of room to crib off material?? Didn't take me long to let them know I had a ruler....and knew how to use it!! :bbg:
