    Redhot Jumper UVEX Olympics, Funny

So UVEX gets a call from Olympics intelectual property lawyers to tell UVEX that they cannot mention Lindsey Vonn gold medal winner using their product. So UVEX posts this poem on their site instead:

    http://www.uvexsports.com/2010/02/bl...last-name.html

Blonde we like wins Downhill (Last name rhymes with "Bonn")

    Wednesday, February 17, 2010

There once was a lawyer from the IOC,
who called us to protect "intellectual property."

"During the Olympics", she said with a sneer
"your site can't use an Olympian's name even if they use your gear."

"No pictures, no video, no blog posts can be used..."
Even if they are old? "No!", she enthused.

While Olympians chase gold the IOC pursues green.
Cough up millions, or your logo cannot be seen.

Except there it is, on top of countless heads!
Tax free endorsements the IOC dreads.

And so it is with a wink and a nudge
that we would like to congratulate a skier whose name we must fudge.

Her hair is long and blonde
Last name rhymes with the German city of Bonn.

    Congratulations Women's Downhill winner --
from all of us here at UVEX (no longer an IOC sinner).
    Awesome rock on UVEX.

The amount of merchandising and corporate schmoozing that goes on to host the games is sickening. I'm all for a good brand getting exposure here and there, and Uvex is certainly a great contender on the slopes. When we hosted the games here in 2002, it was like the branding gods had settled upon our little city and everything I mean EVERYTHING had someone's damn logo slapped on it. The games aren't about sportsmanship anymore, or comradery...it's about the IOC, governments both national and local, and various private companies, and how much money they can squeeze out of literally everything associated with the word: "Olympic". :shiner: We'll be sporting those scars here for decades to come. Sickening really.

Oh yeah, WAY TO GO MISS BONN! (Vonn!) Really!:cheers::cheers:

    Hat's off to UVEX!
In regards to the quote above, I agree completely. (No offense meant to our Canadian members in the following)..........Uileann, at least we showed the world that our professional hockey players were better than the Canadian professional hockey players, last night anyway!

And there is the reason that the Olympics aren't worth it anymore. This is just this week's stop on the pro tour. It isn't about all-around athletes competing in the events they learned as kids, it's pros who see each other, and compete for sponsorship money, every day. I'm uninterested in the development of specialized supermen or superwomen. It's like breeding dogs or cattle to maximize one characteristic.

    Hehehe

I wonder when science will start cloning the 'super-human-Olympian'??? :hammer::hammer::hammer:

    LOL

Truth be told, I haven't been motivated to watch even a minute of the "games" this season. I caught some of the ski jumping only because it was on the TV at the Park City restaurant the fiancé and I ate at on Saturday...but I didn't pick the channel. :shiner::D:p Apparently - at least from the half-hour or so I saw, America didn't even place in that event. Oh well. I know that I, for one, couldn't care less. Meh.

Now that I feel all better, having indulged in catharsis, I agree UVEX gets full marks for skewering pomposity. Skewering is almost always a good thing, unless it's directed at me.

At least they still have this: "UVEX Gold lenses will serve recreational skiers and riders very well, and are a good choice for a utility goggle for more aggressive athletes. Like Ms Vonn over there."
