My 'puter caught a bug of some kind. I cannot download any e-mail; basically, Outlook 2007 is shot.
I'm told to run the repair tool, fine, but I get to the point of 'which files to repair' point, and am stymied.
PLEASE HELP.

What version of Windows are you using?
- Optician
- Frame Maker/Designer
- Teacher of the art of crafting handmade eyewear.
Take it to Staples , Best Buy or whoever. For the price of a couple of hockey pucks they will fix it up for you.
Running XP...I don't mind the idea of uninstalling and reinstalling but I don't want to lose any data such as contacts, calendar appts, or stored EM.

Anyone who uses the term "puter" really shouldn't monkey around with anything electronic. That's why you should take it to an expert. Let him lose your data. You do have a back-up, don't you.
Seriously, as soon as you resolve your technical issue and have restored your files start using carbonite.com. You will sleep a lot easier if you use your computer for mission critical stuff and not just porn.
Yes, running the 'scanpst repair tool' but ther's the rub: My .pst files are located in "C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook"
but the repair tool won't accept this as a directory. It won't 'go' there.
Anything I type into the repairtool command box comes up "C:\program files\microsoft office\office12\whatever is typed here" and I can't navigate to where the .pst files are in the repair tool... Does that make sense?

Hint: Use Mozilla Thunderbird for email applications. WAY better than Outlook. It can import your stuff from Outlook.

Same ting happened to me and Shanbaum's suggested fix did the trick. Hope it works for you.
This problem is quite actually at present days. Therefore there are some programs for settling up these troubles. One of suitable variants of tools is current program - pst repair tool. It has some like effective related utilities around the Internet.
the old rule of thumb for MS outlook .pst files is that performance and increased corruption would increase as the file gets larger at approximately 600 mb. I suggest to create multple .pst files which is very easy to do and helps manage your mail much easier. this avoids having to resort to a windows "repair tool" that probably won't work bc your file is beyond fixing. psts are easily modular/portable and can be used in other outlook versions. for security you can also encrypt it as well, i suggest not to compress. As with any file, they may/will get corrupt over time. As an overall fix for systems, defragment your system regardless of platform.
read the article to know where pst file resides and how to scan the pst file to repair it and make outlook running again
