Three weeks and counting. She'll buy, she's just menopausal and indecisive.
Mrs. Turbedy, June, 1969. Still waiting!
Ahh the ones that take forever are the best. They are the ones that keep coming back, and spending money :D. I love my patients like that, we are almost friends. I love working for a single doctor though, Oh the Smith family are coming, block half the morning for them. Fam of 4 or 5, good sales, even they just did eye exams only, people really love that personal time and are willing to pay and WILL COME BACK. Now I do feel sorry for you if you work at a lower end store, that tightwad lamenting over his two pair for 99. :hammer:It is like they are all equally cheap, pick one, you will not even spring for the warranty dude. That person that comes and complains that his glasses broke, and are scratched, well really? Been there done that.
I know many of you don't like to be accused of being sales people. Helping a customer 4 hours to find a frame is insane. Way to long
Some offices I see the opticians run the optical.
Some offices I see the patients run the optical.
Be more of office A and you wont have the 4 hour problem. Or you could come up with the advertising campaign (Glasses in about 4 hours) or something like that lol
Just my 2 cents.
Have a Coke and a Smile. = )
In the late 80s/early 90s when the spring/summer/autumn/winter thing was really popular, we had a guy come in and spend most of the afternoon looking at frames. We eventually just let him wander and try on frames.
Then he called his wife. She came and looked with him for a while. Then they called their colorist. Yes, they paid someone to tell them what colors to wear.
Altogether took about 5 hours. They settled on a tortoise P3 shaped frame that looked like about a hundred others on the board.
We allow people to take as much time as they like as we don't redo glasses for people who regret their frame choice. I had one return 4 times with several different friends and co-workers, each time at least one hour. She still had the gall to call me and ask if we would redo them as she didn't like the frame. Of course I didn't do as she asked and just reminded her that a lot of time was spent with her and no pressure was brought to bear on her to make a purchase.
This is the exception as most who take their time are long time customers.
P.S I love the "customers" who spend hours only to ask for the frame info to purchase online or wherever but that is another kettle of fish.
5 hours....then they decided to just go with contacts......:drop:
May I make a suggestion? Go back to the first frame YOU like on her have her try it on like it's a new frame. Even talk it up. Something like "Oh, I am so glad to see you! I have the perfect frame for you." Then go get it from the back and have her name written on a post it stuck to it when you bring it out. Remove her name from the frame in front of her so she sees it and then stick it to the table. Hand her the frame and a mirror. As she puts them on excitedly say "Oh those are it. They are perfect!" She will absolutely love it and love you for finding it for her.
Worked for me, good luck!
I have a gentleman who is in my office right now. We are at about an hour and counting. I'm letting him wander. He's indecisive as hell but doesn't want help.
Otherwise, my longest is about two and a half hours.
A lady came in every Saturday for about an hour, for 6 months. She always asked us to put away two frames for the following week. One of the two frames was always the same frame (and the one she went with).
I think that is a fair comment.
To be honest, if someone want to spend every day looking for eyewear, I do not care. A customer is a customer. Some make a decision in one minute and some make it in one year.
But, we have to learn to multi-task. If you have one optician and three customers, you have to learn how to work with all three and still not neglect them.
Also, one final thing, you want the patient to have their mind made up. If they feel rushed, they will not be satisfied.
Exactly. And I would like to add, I absolutely hated it when the fine upper managers at LC wanted us to sprint to the front of the store like car salesmen when someone walked in. Hello! It's a mall! Even though it's an eyewear place, some people just like to browse! Personally, I can't stand it when salespeople run up to greet me. If I need help, I will get your attention. Just let me check things out for a minute, will ya?
Wow, that was a tall soapbox :o

I am fine with patients taking as long as they want. Generally i will work with them for the first 20 minutes or so, make my suggestions, point them in the right direction, then if they dont need me hovering around, i let them go. I will check back every 15 minutes or so, or they can grab me any time for questions.
I would prefer them to take their time and find something that not only works very well, but also something they love. Less chance for them to be unhappy with their choice. While we are all salesmen i dont want to have to sell someone on something they need and they should pick out.
