ahhh rocks, you were lucky we had to pretend we had rocks, and we liked it!
I think they were rocks. The sun hadn't formed yet so it was hard to tell in the darkness. Come to think of it, they did have these holes you could stick your fingers into. And the bottom part kind of hinged.....

Yours had hinges, oooh we used to dream of hinges! we used to have to chisel down to a depth of at least 2 cm with our teeth....
